If this state weren’t so beautiful, we would’ve moved a long time ago.

Why would anyone want to hike in New Jersey? It’s taking your life in your hands just driving a car through that wretched place.

Many areas of the Northeast are beautiful and very safe.

Just avoid the highways and the big cities—and it is a different world.

Our little town in CT has almost as many bears as registered Democrats. :-)

Thanks for posting!

Doesn’t look like Ringwood or Hibernia are on the list - great hiking in former iron-mining areas. As another poster points out, Lyme disease is present throughout the state.

FYI: The chemical used on military fatigues is available for civilian use; can be bought at Wally World. Spraying Permethrin on your clothing doesn’t just repel ticks - it kills them on contact. Should be re-applied after six washings or six weeks, IIRC; spray outdoors and allow to dry the day before, and you’re good to go (just use bug spray on exposed skin). I also treat my cap, boots, and pack.

If you have the misfortune to live there, the best hike you could take is one that gets you to another state .
