Because of the varying degrees of brightness emanating from Oumuamua's surface, NASA suggests it is "highly elongated and probably less than half a mile (2,600 feet, or 800 meters) in its longest dimension."
The intrigue of what Oumuamua is or isn't has picked up a considerably over the past few weeks, especially as some researchers have theorized that it could be an object from an extraterrestrial civilization.
A study from the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics says the object could be "a lightsail of artificial origin" sent from another civilization.
"Considering an artificial origin, one possibility is that ‘Oumuamua is a lightsail, floating in interstellar space as a debris from an advanced technological equipment," researchers Shmuel Bialy and Abraham Loeb wrote in a paper.
Weryk called that idea preposterous and just "wild speculation," though he did note that the speed of the object was unusual.
"There's a maximum speed that you can be traveling to be bound gravitationally by the sun," Weryk told Canadian outlet CBC in an interview. "When we first saw this object, it was traveling faster than that, so we know for a fact that it's from outside our solar system. We decided that it was a comet that had a bit of outgassing that wasn't visible from the ground, which is why it didn't appear to be a comet." ..."

I saw that object back in 1986 when it showed up in Earths orbit looking for some humpback whales.

Rendezvous with Rama
Plot
The “Rama” of the title is an alien starship, initially mistaken for an asteroid categorised as “31/439”. It is detected by astronomers in the year 2131 while it is still outside the orbit of Jupiter. Its speed (100,000 km/h) and the angle of its trajectory clearly indicate it is not on a long orbit around the sun, but comes from interstellar space. The astronomers’ interest is further piqued when they realise the asteroid has an extremely rapid rotation period of 4 minutes and is exceptionally large. It is named Rama after the Hindu god,[6] and an unmanned space probe dubbed Sita is launched from the Mars moon Phobos to intercept and photograph it. The resulting images reveal that Rama is a perfect cylinder, 20 kilometres (12 mi) in diameter and 54 kilometres (34 mi) long, and almost completely featureless, making this humankind’s first encounter with an alien spacecraft.

That would suggest the object has a "shiny side". Experienced vehicle operators know this side should be kept UP...

I read the book Rendezvous with Rama and commented here on how I liked it a lot- and a wonderful Freeper sent me the next two books in the series- I wish I had been able to find the messages and thank him/her properly here.
But in case you’re listening - I promise I did ‘pay it forward’ many times over with other books I’ve gifted to people.
