Um, no. Not “devastating”.

Fake news.

Almost all of the images are cherry-picked for effect & depict liquefaction. Videos are also cherry-picked and replayed ad nauseam.

Though it is recorded as higher in intensity than Northridge, in the pictures, ‘I’ see an earthquake being hyped with very, very light damage. That goes for images & video I’ve viewed elsewhere. I know someone who was in Northridge: He laughed heartily when he saw the damage & shaking.

Examples (including the cameraman who stays on his feet to record the “drama”):

Here is static video of the shaking without human drama:

We were just north of the Northridge epicenter. My husband had to get our large shovel to shovel out the entire contents of our kitchen. Everything breakable in the cabinets was broken and on the floor. The pictures in this story of the grocery store damage are almost laughable. Northridge was two 6.8’s, back to back. In between the two, we were able to get our young son into our bedroom, where we all held onto each other for dear life. I have never been so frightened. Luckily our house didn’t suffer structural damage, but our son’s 1st grade teacher lost her house. It cracked in two.

I lived less than 3 blocks from “Northridge’ when the 71 quake hit.

I was very lucky. I had little damage. My house was situated east-west.

Friend who had a north-south house got severe damage. EVERY single ting in the kitchen cupboards came out & was smashed. The swinging front door & the sliding back door were both locked. The quake opened both of them, and then gyrated the water in the swimming pool & sent it thru his house. In the slider, out the front door.

The damages caused by that quake are still not repaired. Endless fighting over insurance, etc.
