Animal lovers slam a fisherman for catching and killing a fish

Animal activists are fuming after a group of fishermen caught and killed an enormous black marlin.

Outrage was sparked when pictures were posted online of the massive 650 kilogram black marlin, which was caught off the Fraser Island coast in Queensland this week.

Social media users slammed the group, calling them 'cruel' for killing the creature.

'Good work heroes! Another animal killed for a photo op, well done,' one person said.

'This is so wrong, so many people trying to justify that it's okay because it died in the fight to get it in.. why can't you see how horrible that is?' another person person said.

'This poor thing is just living its life in the deep blue when all of a sudden its getting dragged through the water by a hook in it mouth, stressing out, not having a clue what is going on, then to die because of it all. Human impact is a scary thing.'

'Let's hope it's used for something otherwise it's just like a fat American standing over a lion in Africa it's a pity this beautiful fish died otherwise.

However, one user was quick to point out unlike Lions, swordfish are not endangered.

The group who posted the photo, called Fishing with Scotto, responded to the criticism saying big game anglers tag and release more than 95 per cent of their catch.

The group also said commercial fishing fleets around the world kill and process thousands of tonnes of marlin, including around 15,000 tonnes from the Indian Ocean each year and 300 tonnes of striped marlin from Australian waters.

Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day.

Teach a man to fish, and you feed a man for his lifetime.

Slap a Liberal in the puss with a fish, and the world is a better place.

Another animal killed for a photo op

Photo op? More than likely, there was a Japanese agent from a large trading company on hand to snap the photo and give him a handsome payout for the fish which was then frozen and put on the next cargo plane to Narita or Kansai International Airport.

That’s a big fish.

I’m likely one of the softer ones on this board when it comes to animals and hunting and fishing but no, I don’t think it’s wrong.

It’s just not for me.

That being said, put put an animal whose coat is worth 6,000 dollars in front of me and give me a baseball bat, and I’ll make hunters look peace loving hippies.

Am I to assume the marlin itself was vegetarian or subsisted on rainbows and whale farts? Cause if it chased down, caught, killed and ate other fish, well that would be wrong!

I think ‘catch and release’ is worse.

Don’t catch something you’re not planning on using.

Killing that thing saved hundreds of thousands of small fry. Where’s the compassion?

Ditto that. A fish like that will go well into 5 figures at the Tokyo fish market...

'Let's hope it's used for something otherwise it's just like a fat American standing over a lion in Africa it's a pity this beautiful fish died otherwise.

They are aware that the lion is "used for something" or are they typical fat, dumb, drunk liberals?

The animals are good eating.

Liberals are only good as fertilizer.

Photo op? Ridiculous, the fish will be EATEN and enjoyed. Maybe they should stop posting their tofu dinner plates on Facebook, or is it OK to kill tofu for a photo op, tofu has feelings too.

Are their coats worth a lot?

I was thinking more along the line of the little critters :)

I’m not a hunter but if you think I have a problem blowing the head square off of a grizzly if it was me or him...

You are wrong :)

And since i’m not a hunter I’d prefer an M4 cause I could miss with the first few rifle shots!!

Though I hate to admit it I’m somewhat in agreement with these animal rights people. Why kill the animal if your not going to consume it or donate it to someone who will.

Though at the same time I think to become as large as that Marlin did he had to consume a huge amount of smaller fish who will now stand a better chance of survival since their predator is gone.
