California Democrats plan to extend Medicaid to illegal immigrants

A California lawmaker has pledged to re-introduce a bill that would allow adults who live in the state illegally to receive medical care paid for by the government.

State Assembly member Joaquin Arambula, a Democrat and a doctor, announced the plans Monday as the legislature convened at the state capitol, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Should the bill advance, California would become the first state to extend Medicaid coverage regardless of immigration status. State projections for last year's bill found that 1.8 million people in California are uninsured and reside there illegally; roughly 1.2 million would qualify for Medi-Cal, the name of the state's Medicaid program.

The legislation is being introduced ahead of a new governor entering office. Gov.-elect Gavin Newsom initially had vowed to seek a single-payer healthcare system for the state, but tamped down his rhetoric later in the campaign, focusing instead on extending coverage to the uninsured. Single-payer systems refer to one source of payment for all medical services, usually the government.

Arambula introduced a similar bill last session alongside state Sen. Ricardo Lara, but the final versions would have covered fewer people than they had both originally envisioned. They were narrowed to young adults, between the ages of 19 and 26, and to immigrants over the age of 65. Outgoing Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown refused to fund the provisions in the state budget.

The latest plan would carry an estimated price tag of $3 billion a year, according to California's Legislative Analyst's Office, which would be paid for by the state's general fund. Medicaid is otherwise jointly funded by the state and federal governments.

Critics have questioned whether people in the U.S. illegally would move to California to receive healthcare benefits, which would increase state spending.

Under a Medicaid provision in Obamacare, anyone making less than roughly $17,000 a year qualifies for coverage. That provision, however, doesn't apply to people who are in the U.S. illegally. Emergency departments provide medical care for people regardless of immigration status.

California has already extended Medicaid to people younger than 19 who are in the state illegally.

Note the last sentence of the article: "California has already extended Medicaid to people younger than 19 who are in the state illegally."

The article doesn't make clear that illegal adults can receive emergency services (ER) and women can receive pregnancy support and delivery coverage, and the baby receives medical care for at least a year.

It doesn't seem to mention that CA law requires all applicants above 18 or older to automatically receive voter registration materials in the mail, one per household adult.

They obviously are willing to burn the state to the ground to make their Global utopia.

Bible warns about that, says the globalist utopia will be a dictatorship run by Satan.

Sounds like a nice little positive feedback loop they've got going there.

When I learned about the "root locus" method for determining if a control system would be stable under different conditions, "positive feedback" corresponded to what is called "a pole in the right half-plane."

The professor for that course told us a universal truth: "if there is a pole in the right half plane, something external to the system will always intervene to move the pole into the left half-plane."

He said this with a little twinkle in his eye.

I think the clock is ticking over a massive economic collapse in California within five years. I don’t think the remaining 49 states will see any incentive to ‘save’ them.

It’ll be a photo finish between California and Illinois as to which state goes bankrupt first.

“...which would be paid for by the state’s general fund. “

Meaning, the real costs will be buried into an unaccountable resource

Let all the illegals go to California for Medicaid etc. It will bankrupt the state to the point that either the Republicans will takeover and clean house, or the state will split in two. Both are winners.

Maybe Congress can cut some Medicaid funding for illegals, making proof of citizen or lawful exceptions requirements for registration.

It’s a race between the stupid Marxists who are running and ruining California, or the San Andreas Fault doing its thing.

California accounts for a whopping 30% of all federal Medicaid spending. On average the Fed picks up 60 per cent of their Medicaid bill. Thus California’s plan to extend Medicaid to illegals puts much on the expense onus on residents of the other states who have no say in the matter. It might be time for Congress to entertain legislation that no federal funds will be used in the federal-state sharing formula to insure illegals through Medicaid.

And in two years, citizens who paid all their lives will be told there’s no more funding for their care - while the illegals continue to get the benefits....

Money is fungible. And since states can’t print it, US taxpayers in all 50 states will be on the hook for this, one way or another.

The trouble being is that the people fleeing californicate will expect the same services in other locations as they are doing in Colorado and Texas.

The disease will spread.

The chance the dem controlled new house will stifle this idea are nil. We are rapidly getting nearer to CW II here. When Medicare stops for those who actually paid part of it as it goes broke or whether the IRAs and 401s get nationalized or some other nasty idea occurs to the globalists it will be the point of no return. They first need get the guns away to avoid a catastrophe. France got to the brink with the fuel taxes which looks like a harbinger. Recall the line from “ network “ I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it any longer.

It will end only when government workers realize their pensions have been plundered to pay for illegals.

Because some of the medicare funding comes from all of us.
And if not, when the damn place goes BK, whom do you think is going to pick up the tab?? They control about a 12% swath of Congress.

I think this is a great idea, but it should be implemented with the following rules:

1. They will get no more money from the federal government than they already do.

2. People from California will only be able to move out of the state if they can show at least a 10yr history of voting for Republican candidates. If not, then they will be forced to stay in the state they helped create and pay the massive taxes that will follow the expansion.
