A Lord Mayor has removed a portrait of a politician linked to the slave trade from her office and replaced it with the picture of an African-American woman.
Cleo Lake took down the 'dull and dated' portrait of Lord Nugent holding the 1750 Act of Parliament, painted by Thomas Gainsborough, from the walls of City Hall in Bristol.
The Mayor has replaced the portrait with a painting of Henrietta Lacks, whose cancer cells became the source of the HeLa cell line and central to modern medicine.

I don’t see the problem with removing the painting by a half black mayor. However the media-show aspect over doing this gives me reason for pause. There should be some reverence for the past. And furthermore the ability to be able to look at history from a contemporary view. Not to look at something from 1750 through the values of today.
Only a blazing insane mad dog liberal would take down a Gainsborough for some shlock piece of nothing. Soon they will level the rest of yourl lost island and all its past memorabilia.
They want us dead, they don’t want equality or parity. This is just the start of what isn’t going to be a nice ending.

This is ridiculous. Henrietta Lacks complete contribution to science was going to the doctor. What a load of race hustling garbage. To even think of replacing a Gainsborough with that picture is an insult to anyone with eyes.
So much of this sort of thing is just because the person knows they will be on TV and make headlines. So much of it is display and the greed to be an instant ‘celebrity’. The media is at fault for this. She knew she’d get her face on the cameras.
