Deputy Olivia Coco was first on the scene and chased after the suspect, 28-year-old Richard Lopez.
The good Samaritan said he ran too and started shooting the take down with his phone. But he quickly realized the deputy needed assistance.
You want help? he asked.
Yeah, dude, Coco replied.
The bystander said the man was incoherently flailing around.
In the video, the man appears to be struggling with Coco on a sidewalk.
Hes covered in blood and sweat, obviously, from the collision, so its kind of hard to get ahold of him, Coco said. His shirt is, you know, kind of torn and coming off, so its kind of a struggle just because of the blood and stuff on his body.
The good Samaritan dropped his cell phone and ran to help.
I never had anybody ask if I needed assistance, or anything like that. So it was nice to have someone not just stand there and film all the time and, you know, actually kind of step up and help out.
The hit-and-run driver was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and evading police.
The mother and child were treated and released from a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Never during my years of service has any citizen ever asked to help me. Instead of foolishly putting himself in harms way, he asked the officer if he could help her, said Sgt. Pax Perez.

Affirmative action kills.
Don’t tell me a woman could not take down a man who didnt want to be taken down? But I saw a tv show and movie where women do this all the time with ease......and PC says.....
Women being killed in work formerly reserved for men is not as important as the women being there now........
“Yeah, dude, Coco replied. “

The woman’s movement has certainly come a long way since it’s inception.

Instead of foolishly putting himself in harms way, he asked the officer if he could help her,
Olivia foolishly put herself in harms way by becoming a cop in the first place. More than one man is in his grave and some other guy raising his kids because he foolishly went out on patrol with someone like Olivia.
That is a great pic!
Very nice.
Unfortunately, I bet some police union lawyer will raise a stink because a citizen might get hurt after volunteering to assist a union member in doing their work. That seems like an inherent No-No.
Officer Olivia probably couldn’t make a sandwich either.

______
I’ve seen those movies, too. I certainly couldn’t physically take down a man, even in my prime. I check off those movies as fantasy.
“Coco was by herself.” There is the problem. Coco by herself could not complete the task.
Yeah, dude, Coco replied.

The womans movement has certainly come a long way since its inception.
It’s a good thing the samaritan wasn’t transgender. He’d have thrown a hissy fit over being called a dude then ran off to file a lawsuit.
