The marijuana question: Would you take drug advice from a Kennedy?
The Star Ledger ^ | 11.27.18 | Paul Mulshine

Perhaps it is uncharitable of me, but the minute I hear the words "as a former addict myself," I stop listening to the speaker.

Yesterday that speaker was Patrick Kennedy of the famed Kennedy clan. Kennedy, who had some problems with drugs back when he was a congressman, was testifying before a joint committee of the Legislature that is looking at legalization bills.

He did a lot of fulminating, as Kennedys do, raising his voice and gesturing with his hands as he said things like, "As a father of five, the last thing I want is edibles sold on every corner."

Edible marijuana would not be sold on every corner, of course. It wouldn't be sold to kids either, but only to adults in a relatively small number of highly supervised locations - like alcoholic beverages.

If you were on cancer treatment (with a doctors note), then you ought to be able to walk into any pharmacy...make an order, and be able to use the stuff within your home.

But the problem I see for non-medical users...it’s easy to get a regular routine and use it for stress relief, then you start convincing yourself that four times a day is perfectly ok, and showing up for work on a high...was ok as well. In that case, it just won’t work.

Came back from Cali recently and only saw 2 shops while visiting many cities & towns. 1 place had only a few car in the lot. The other in Venice beach area had a line about a half block waiting to get in.

Curious as to why our government advocates abstinence of smoking cigarettes, and by condoning the use by legalization advocates the smoking, or usage of Marijuana?

A legitimate question I believe.

Only if there was a strict choice between what the Kennedy said and an alternative. I would then choose the alternative

Good stuff.

‘During his diatribe, Kennedy had also criticized the way the alcoholic-beverage industry markets its products. (A strange position for someone whose family fortune was made peddling Scotch.)

‘”Are you suggesting we ban the sale of alcoholic beverages?” he asked Kennedy.

‘After first trying to dodge the question, Kennedy answered that the alcohol industry lobbyists would never permit that.

‘Scutari didn’t let up, asking Kennedy if he thought the Legislature should ignore those evil lobbyists and just go ahead and ban booze.

‘Kennedy dodged that as well’
