A former Marine working as a bartender in Altoona, Pennsylvania, tackled an armed suspect Tuesday and foiled a robbery. Fox News reports that the incident occurred at Ajays Bar around 1:00 a.m.
The first of two surveillance videos shows the former Marine calmly retrieving money from the cash register while the suspect has him at gunpoint. Seconds later, the former Marine is seen bum-rushing the suspect, driving the suspect to the floor, and wrestling for the gun:

Ping!
He even took away his gun and held him with it. Lol
Thanks for the direct link.
He ended up with the robber’s gun but the robber got away..
"...robber got away..."
If this guy is merely an employee and not the owner, I hope to hell the boss shows is appreciation for an employee who is protecting his business like that.
If I were a business owner in Altoona, I’d find that guy and offer him a job immediately.
FORMER marine? No such thing.
I still consider it a win.
Me, too.
What you said.
First one in to say there is no such thing as a “former” Marine.
Then what do you call someone who served for 5 years and was honorably discharged 40 years ago?
BEAUTIFUL!
The guy was obviously hurting.
A non-active duty Marine.
Thanks. I stand corrected.
Once a Marine always a Marine.
That’s not official, but I understand their thinking.
I should have said *A non-active duty Marine?*
They’re not retired, and their not former. It was the best I could think of.

This brief article disturbs me deeply, because it contains a very serious reporting error that also passed the editor. The error is this:
There is no such thing as a former Marine.A person who has undergone basic training as a United States Marine Coips recruit and successfully passed that training has earned the indelible permanent title "Marine" at the rite of graduation from it.
If subsequently honorably discharged from active service in the USMC, the title "Marine" is never rescinded or revoked, for ever.
If no longer engaged in active duty, that person is to be referred to as "Marine" or "Marine Veteran," never "former Marine" or "ex-Marine" in any communication, verbal or printed.
If the Marine has fulfilled the service qualification for retirement from the Corps, the title "Retired" may apply, as well as "Veteran."
For comparison, I spent years studying science and qualifying for the diploma of Doctor of Philosophy from the faculty of a recognized university. I would be greatly offended if I was described as former Doctor of Philosophy or ex-Doctor of Philosophy or former/ex PhD. No one can ever take that title from me, nor can I reject the responsibility implied by it.
No one, even God, can take the title Marine away from a member of the Corps, nor has the Marine ever been relieved of accountability for maintaining the personal quality of loyalty to self, friends, and the Corps, "Semper Fideles," associated with that title.
Those claiming the title of "journalist" or "editor" of that submitted reports need to take note of this issue, as should any instructor of the English language.
