‘No Parking’ sign installed overnight sees woman’s car towed

A woman in Queens, New York found her car was towed out of the spot she’d been parking it in for nearly 10 years after a ‘No Standing Anytime’ sign was installed overnight.

According to CBS New York, it was legal for Nicole Laveglia to park her vehicle on the street when she got home at 8:30 pm this past week.

But when she woke up, her car was gone, and a brand-new sign declaring “No Standing Anytime” was installed on the block instead.

Laveglia said her car was towed just one hour after the sign was put up, and she now faces a US$185 towing fee; and a US$115 ticket. Security footage shows city workers installing the signs, and towing her car.

A few days later, workers returned to the street and removed the signs. The city responded saying the signs were a mistake, and gave no explanation.

Tesla “It’s a headache, it’s a hassle,” she said. “I just feel like I was robbed,” she said.

Now Laveglia has to go through the awful task of fighting the ticket in court. The city says they are “working with Leveglia to address her concerns.”

She’s also working with a local council member to receive a reimbursement for the towing fees.

Sounds like it was probably a personal vendetta against her by someone with the ability to have signs installed and removed, and with the connivance of the towing contractor.

This is a due process violation. Due process requires notice.

Sounds like you read too many conspiracy blogs. Think of all of the things that have to work to get that accomplished.

It sounds like a cop on the beat who didn’t know the signs were going up.

Of course the tickets will still stand. A common trick in Chicago.

You are thinking someone moved all these cogs to tow one car?

That is a good imagination.

This would be an ex post facto case. She has a constitutional defense.

Lucky she was caught standing by the parking spot!

Hopefully they haven’t auctioned off her car before she can get it out of the lot.

Nope - saying the whole thing stinks regardless of the conspiracy theory loons...it’s a fine example of runaway bureaucracy when one suffers from a “mistake” and they “will work to help make it right” when all they have to do is say, “Oops, our bad, we’ll pay the cost of getting the car back and forgive the fine.”

No debate with that. People in government (actually everywhere) are pretty much drones. They do what the paper says. They they do what the sign says.

I never attribute to conspiracy that which can be attributed to idiocy.

I hear you - I wasn’t supporting the conspiracy theory - just what government manages to do to us.

I’d like to hear that interview.

“So Nicole - they towed your car out of the space that you have used for the last ten years?”

“Yes - the car was gone this morning.”

“Now I have to say - it is amazing how on a crowded Queen’s street you were always able to drive home from work and park in this same spot so near to your home.”

“Drive to work!!?? Are you nuts!!!!??? Then of course I would lose this great spot. I take the bus everywhere.”
