Did Lynn Swann ban USC Song Girls over ‘Fire Helton’ chants?

Lynn Swann continues to get on the bad side of USC fans, and his latest act will only fray the relationship further. Swann, the Trojans’ athletic director, has blocked the famous USC Song Girls from performing at USC home basketball games for the rest of the season. The Los Angeles Times reported the news on Friday, saying Swann put the order into effect in late November. Instead of the Song Girls, a dance group called the Trojan Dance Force performs at basketball games.

USC once again paying the price for keeping important positions inside the "family" Swann is horrible as an AD. Now he has shown he is petty. I luv the Song Girls. They are synonymous with USC as the football team. They are gorgeous but I think it is nice they have kept their classic look and not turned slutty as many other cheer squads have done. This other squad looks like just another NBA dance team.

They should have disciplined or replaced the girls who joined the chant, not ban the whole group. If the girls were attempting some kind of solidarity with the offending cheerleaders, well then they got what they deserved...

Ban the entire group just for effect. An SF 49er cheerleader kneeled in support of Kapernick. How many people go to the games to watch the cheerleaders? Swann is a Republican. Like Trump he’s willing to be the bad guy. Nip this sh-t in the bud.

he Daily News’ Scott Wolf wrote on Twitter that some Song Girls alumni believe Swann banned them after being told some of the current members joined in on a “Fire Helton” chant at USC’s football game against Notre Dame in November.

UCLA song girls dance better and are prettier as I have seen them.

Haven't seen their song girls in a long time because I usually sit on the USC side of the stadium. But I liked the UCLA flag girls back in the Terry Donahue era when they dressed like Russian peasants.

It's hard to believe that Lynn Swann and his predecessor Pat Haden were once high in the pantheon of Trojan heroes. But during his term as athletic director, many fans have come to view Haden as USC's version of Benedict Arnold for his failure to fight draconian sanctions imposed on the school in 2010, his poor choices for football head coach, and his ruining of the LA Memorial Coliseum by allowing the construction of Haden's Tower, a structure filled with luxury boxes that will eliminate thousands of seats.

We thought Lynn Swann would be our salvation, but he's turning out to be USC's version of Harry Hopkins.

Interestingly to me, one of the regular posters on a college football forum which has nothing to do with USC, often posts pictures of their song girls.
