Audi names its new car 'turd': German firm's e-tron tag is very close to French word for 'excrement'
Daily Mail Online ^ | 2/5/2019 | Sara Malm

German carmaker Audi is being ridiculed online after revealing its latest electric car model: the Audi e-tron.

As was swiftly discovered by francophones around the globe, 'e-tron' is very similar to the French word 'ètron'.

It is therefore unlikely that Frenchmen will be rushing to their local cardealers to purchase the new Audi, as 'ètron' means 'excrement' or 'turd'.

Audi promises that the e-tron will usher in 'a new era of electric'.

It writes on its website that the car is 'the only electric SUV built with Audi DNA,' adding: 'This is electric done the Audi way.'

However, as reported by Inquisitr, social media users were quick to point out the unfortunate meaning of the car's name in French. 'Apparently nobody at Audi speaks French!,' one person tweeted in disbelief. Another pondered if 'maybe Audi picked the name intentionally after all', while one joked that it was 'the most expensive pile of s*** on wheels'.

Did a search but didn't find this posted yet.

Funny stuff.

A similar incident happened many years ago when the company I work for entered into discussions with Sony for a partnership in producing a cutting edge tape library data storage appliance.

After development and design were done, manufacturing was set to ramp up and start producing. Sony announced at a meeting that because this appliance would hold a huge number of tapes for data storage and petabytes of data, they were planning on naming this new tape library the Sony PetaFile.

The representatives from our company tried not to laugh and did well not to offend...but they did inform the Sony people that there is NO way they could use that name and explained exactly why.

Sorry, but Toyota beat them to the punch a couple of decades ago. The “Toyota Racing Division” has proudly emphasized the Toyota TRD ever since.

Years ago we had an employee come into HR to add a newborn on his health insurance coverage. The child’s name was LaTrine

Meh. Toyota did it first over 20 years ago with the TRD designation. How else are you gonna read that?

What gets me is that the E-Tron is basically the Audi Q7 design...just in electric battery design. They should have just called it the E7.

They should have just called it the E7.

Now that would be a grand name. Simple, but it says it.

$80,000 for the E-Tron
$5,000 for the charger
$50,000 for the car to drive while the E-Tron is charging

That’s a lot to pay for transportation

They should rename the brand “turd” for what their cars become once off warranty. German cars suck now, nice to look at but over engineered pieces of crap. I own three.

Then there was the Chevy Citation, which can either be an award or that expensive piece of paper the cop gives you after pulling you over.
