"The End of Men is Not True"
Boston University Law Review ^ | May 2013 | Philip N. Cohen

Hanna Rosin has written that she “hesitate[s] to get drawn into data wars” (and suggested my blog to those readers who have “an appetite for them”).1Statistics, however, are not mere technical details, academic in the pejorative sense. They are reflections of reality – numbers that represent characteristics of a sample which, if done right, reflect the population from which the sample is drawn. It is in the broad sense of measuring reality, not the narrow sense of quibbling over details at the nth decimal place, that the “end of men” is not true. Rosin’s depiction of reality is not accurate.

I just came across this, but the research is solid and I think developments since then have only strengthened the author's point, to wit:

*Something he does not get into much is the increasingly later maturity of males. Whereas many of us "Boomers" were expecting full time jobs and, usually, career paths by our mid-20s at the latest, boys today stay juveniles longer and play longer. They delay marriage.

*One result of this is that driven, career-oriented single women for the first time are working longer and harder than single men from about 25-35. That STILL doesn't change the basic dynamic that George Gilder alluded to in the 1980s, which is that MARRIED men work 2-4 TIMES harder (as defined by studies of work effort) than single women, single men, or married women. I call this the "bring home the bacon effect."

*Hanna Rosen's article "The End of Men," which triggered this response, also has a major weakness in citing the rising number of women employed in services. Yes, some of those are law and medicine, accounting and bookkeeping. These are higher paying occupations. But the majority of services are in sales, marketing, and in particular jobs that can be replaced by robotics or on-line shopping . . . which is robotics. (Take a look at an Amazon facility).

*While the medical profession is often cited as an area where "women are taking over," this is nonsense. There are far more primary care doctors who are women, but those doctors are earning less than ever. Moreover, an increasing number of those doctors aren't doctors at all but are physicians' assistants---nurses.

In short, the crisis today is IMMATURE MEN who do not get married until their 30s or 40s. This, as Gilder again shows, places extreme pressure on 30 and 40-year-old women who have to compete with 20-year-olds. Maybe the $$ they have made for 10-20 years in their careers is enough to cause men to choose them over younger women, but maybe not.

There is, I think, a dynamic going on at the population level that we see manifest in the fact that many young men are living with their parents well into adulthood, and many young women just are not interested in family.

Look up the “mouse utopia experiment.”

I saw a video on this set of experiments, which ran for years and always produced similar results in both mice and rats. When placed into a habitat where all of their needs were met, the mice thrived at first. But at a certain population level, they started displaying aberrant behavior. For a while, the population remained roughly constant but the behavior became more and more pathological. Finally, young male mice became interested only in grooming themselves and the females displayed male-like behaviors. Fewer females became pregnant; those that did would often resorb the fetuses or abandon the pups after birth. When these behaviors became more widespread, the population went into a nosedive. Even after the population pressures were relieved, normal mouse behavior did not return since none of the mice had been properly socialized. The colonies always died out.

The problem was not lack of resources. The mice always had enough food and water. The problem was that at a certain population density, normal social structures became impossible to maintain.

I see a lot of similarity between the mouse behaviors that were observed in the mouse utopia experiments and human behaviors that we are seeing worldwide. The worst behaviors are always seen in the cities; the most bizarre socialist ideas also come from the cities. And the cities are where people are crammed together to the point where social structures are severely impacted.

I have limited sympathy for these women.

When I was in my early 20s, I regularly ran into 'income snobbery' by women of approximately the same age who wanted a doctor or lawyer along with the attendant salary. The average joe just wasn't good enough.

And now they complain about competition from other 20 year old women when they decided the pickings weren't good enough?

Pfffft!

Nowadays many women would settle for a working man (in any job) without STDs that will provide them with children - money be damned. Too many 40+ women ruing their prior “income snobbery”...now any sperm donor will do - but quickly!

The crisis is that women are giving preference in hiring and promotion; they are empowered both to sleep around with men who are too good looking for them to secure commitment from; and empowered to marry an average looking guy then divorce him for frivolous reasons (but really because they miss the club/bar scene) and garnish his wages until the kids turn 18.

From the men's point of view, it means no dates or relationships while young, while you get to watch the women you'd want sleeping with rock band drummers or other hit messes; seeing the women hired and promoted ahead if you; then when you finally get attention from one at age 29-32, she's much more sexually experienced than you and at a higher rung on the career ladder, therefore (sincecwomen marry up), she's doubly dissatisfied with you; then, she takes half your stuff and you get to see your own kids twice a month, if you're lucky: and IF she doesn't poison their minds against you.

Why join the rat race just to get shafted? Especially when a lot of your earnings just go to support politicians, govt. workers, illegals, and 3rd generation welfare cheats.

The system is rigged, white men (the engines of productive society) are dropping out.

Unless thus really is white genocide on the installment plan, they should've used more carrot, less stick.

That must go over real well! The females near & dear to me did OK, but working with the older ones who missed their chance is rough. They really resent the minority women who are parents and in many cases, grandparents now.

Too many 40+ women ruing their prior “income snobbery”...now any sperm donor will do - but quickly!

Usually starts when they're 30-32.....they realize the biological clock is counting down fast and "35" seems to be the magic age. They're a strong independent woman......and realize they'll likely be "independent" at 70, unless you count cats.

Rather than letting a relationship run its course and grow into a stable partnership, and lead to marriage - it's suddenly 'don't waste my time,' I'm in it for marriage (meaning they want you to be prepared to agree to sign over 50%+ of your s4!t a couple months into to dating).

They can't understand why a guy would be hesitant to accept this, and be more interested in a girl 10 years younger, without the useless studies degrees, and whatever "career" she slept her way through for promotion.

I believe the guys understand the child is the primary goal of some of those women - not a stable family/good marriage. The guys should be wary...

Maybe I’m an outlier, but I always found younger women to be extremely annoying and immature. I got married at 33, my wife was 32. I could not even imagine dating let alone marrying a women ten years younger. Yes, they can be nice to look at, but that only goes so far. I don’t see much of an issue with women marrying about age 30. They have their shit together, are more mature, and are ready for motherhood. I know fertility issues are real. We just got lucky I guess. I merely looked at my wife sideways and she was pregnant. Three sons later and all is well.

This “the end of men” meme is kinda comical. I see it this way: We are just adhering to Dalton’s line in “Roadhouse”.

“Be nice, until it’s time to not be nice.”

“Why join the rat race just to get shafted?”
Once I had TRULY accepted the reality of this truth my life turned on a dime.
When you are no longer preparing to dedicate yourself to a future mate, a giant weight is lifted from your shoulders.
You begin to live by the rules the ‘man in the mirror’ demands, a certain peace of mind follows.
The person I became no longer lives for the approval of others.

yeah I've got to call bullshit on that if there's an issue with maturity it's the result of having multiple generations of men raised by women/single mothers and the poor quality of women available today as a result of third-wave feminism. The odds are rigged so poorly in a guy's favor if I were younger there's no way I would get married these days

Why marry someone that immature? Isn’t the divorce rate high enough, already?

The minimization of male relevance coupled with outright bludgeoning by use of ‘male toxicity’ finds the sound of male rejection of society to be that of birds coming home to roost.

“When placed into a habitat where all of their needs were met, the mice thrived at first. But at a certain population level, they started displaying aberrant behavior. For a while, the population remained roughly constant but the behavior became more and more pathological.”

A consequence of “affluenza”... something we’re definitely suffering from. Once physical needs are satisfied, the more ephemeral mental needs start arising. Silly things like “gender identity”, order destructing “freedoms”, bathroom usage, pathological equality, envy and resentments for the slightest disparities.... These are the pathologies that will lead to chaos and eventual downfall... Until the “Gods of the Copybook Headings” return.

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return! “
