When I worked at a fast food place as a college student, the manager made $7,000 a year. The owner would hire only males over 18 because they did not have to be paid the minimum wage. When I started, my hourly pay was less than half the minimum wage (but we were expected to get enough tips to bring us up to about the minimum wage).

When the Navy first put me in the Washington DC area in 1962 it was considered a ‘bad place’ to be, being ‘ground zero’ - the center of government and all.
After getting out and staying in the region, now at the furthest from DC - about 50 miles, with the crop of idiots as representatives etc, I feel the ‘center of government’ is the safest place to be as no enemy who wanted to win, would wipe these clowns out.

The math is absurdly simple. The average worker puts in about 2,000 hours year. So when someone tells you $11/hour, you only need about five neurons to estimate $22,000 per year.

While it is easy to blame the public schools - think about this - the average IQ of many of the kids from urban areas is around 80. That's more than 1 standard deviation below the mean. These kids are not going to learn algebra or English.
