Burnt toast could be more toxic than TRAFFIC FUMES, scientists warn

Burnt toast can expose people to more pollution than if they were standing at a busy road junction, a study has claimed.

Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin found burnt toast was especially harmful and the safest way was to “go for gold” – allowing the bread to turn a light gold colour.

The team of experts built a mock-up of a three-bed house and equipped it with monitors to assess how everyday activities impacted on air quality.

Roasting and frying can also prove to be toxic, the research found.

Researchers in the US found the least harmful way to make toast was to turn the bread a light golden brown rather than burning it

But researcher Marina Vance said the biggest shock was discovering just what the impact of toasters was.

It was found they sent toxic particles into the air the moment they are switched on, The Times has reported.

Vance said at a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science: “When you make toast, the heating element starts warming up the debris and gunk in the toaster which includes oils.”

Revealing the early results of the research the assistant professor added: “Add to that the bread itself - it’s going to emit a range of things.

“We found ethanol, a by-product of yeast...If there’s tiny pieces of bread touching the heating element you can see the smoke, maybe from crumbs at the bottom of the toaster - they will all make a lot of particles. It led to what would be considered ‘very unhealthy’ air pollution levels if compared to outdoor air quality standards.”

The busy bodies are hard at work today. Here's your daily dose of how to live a better life.

We obviously need federal regulation of toasters and must require HEPA particulate filters on them. I hope the Dem Presidential Candidate clown circus gets on this right away. This is far more important the epidemic of lynching that is going on across the land.

So how many taxpayer dollars were wasted on this valuable knowledge?

Ahhh!, the aroma of a broiling standing rib roast or frying bacon, what a way to die!

Toasters are a major source of pollution?

Federal standards to follow on toasters and how to toast bread?

And don’t forget bagels being toasted creates other issues.

Scientists are studying “burnt toast” now? No wonder there are so many “science deniers” out there. Science has gone loony toons.

This is where Jussie Smollett went wrong. Instead of the noose, he should have claimed he was hit with a toaster.

Figured this would be a big deal in Austin. Not many real scientists gather there. But hey! The stupid have to have a place to go too!

Incredible... What about Waffles, Pancakes, pan or oven browned foods? How much did this study cost us in grants?

As silly as the Sun is, try the Guardian.
The Sun only deals with “you’re gonna die if you don’t do something trivial that makes no diff anyway”, while the Guardian deals with “everyone’s gonna die unless we eliminate conservatives and become cave people - except for we libs of course”.

Lol... That’s always my first question too my friend. Million dollar grant to the university to brown a few slices of toast. It’s broken...

Last night I fried Kaiser rolls in a pan with butter for a snack. It was delicious, and would have been even more so had I known I was upsetting greenie weenies.

Nanny State alive and well. I’m already poisoning myself with bacon, fried foods blackened Cajun style etc. I often don’t buckle my seatbelt in my truck(have seat belt extenders that shutoff the beeping) and when I used to ride MCs I would often (depending on the state) not wear a helmet. (Not worth a ticket or arrest in states where required by Marxist law).

I was one of the heads of a Hazmat team for many years. The thing this type of article seems to forget is that quantity and dosage are the most important factors in any hazard assessment. Many substances and compounds that will kill you in large amounts are beneficial for you in small amounts. The amount of smoke coming from toasters not set to burn your toast not in a very small enclosed space probably has little if any risk involved.
