Photos and video at link. it can't really be seen from the still pictures, but from the video it seems that the cop was trying to slam whiteboys head against the pavement several times.

There used to be a time in America not so long ago, that if a person was unresponsive, 911 would be called and the person would be cared for until help arrived. And I imagine that would have happened here, if the roles were reversed.

It is okay - The man down is a Republican and the officer was instructed by Maxine Waters.

The guy is not “unconscious” or “unresponsive” and the cop was not beating on him. This is a big nothing burger.

There is another one out this morning caught on bodycam where an officer punched and knocked out a perp while in handcuffs.

Unresponsive, eh? When a cop wants you to respond, you effin’ well BETTER respond, comrade!!! I have a feeling he’ll be more obedient in the future, though! /s

I have a great deal of respect for cops in general. But if I was a cop and saw this, I would be infuriated.

All the dedicated work and sowing of goodwill shot to hell by one short video. Shameful behavior by anyone let alone an officer who’s primary duty is to protect and to serve.

Not a fair story.

It begins right at the moment when the transit cop is standing over the guy.

The guy on the ground is conscious and I actually get the impression that he’s just refusing to leave and put himself on the ground in an act of civil disobedience or what not.

I could be wrong, but so could the article. Complete absence of “pre-story”.

I’m slightly biased on the cop’s side for now until more is known.

Somehow you guys are seeing something that I am not. The guy was moving his hands around and obviously not unresponsive. I responded to clowns like this guy a dozen times some days. We ended up transporting the same guy to detox or the hospital two or three times some days. They often would walk over a mile back to the same spot and lay down in the middle of the sidewalk again. It was typically a scam to get money.

And I would turn in any cop who was abusing the "customers" but I didn't see it very often.

I'll withhold judgement on this one until I see more details.

The primary duty of a New Jersey Transit cop is not to "protect and serve," but to clean human trash and various other mutants out of the agency's bus terminals and train stations.

Sorry to inform you FRiend, but those days are long gone. The primary duty of police today is to enforce the status quo, oppress, and intimidate.

Not a fair story.

Thank you, I am glad someone else here bothered to watched the entire video with an eye for detail.

"But if I was a cop and saw this, I would be infuriated.”

I doubt any cops would be "infuriated"

Most probably have encounters like this a few times during their careers.

And the "punching" is overly dramatic, hardly a tap on the top of the perp's head

This ain't an Rodney King" situation. The headlines are trying to get clicks and stir the crap.

I believe that was in Denver, and the perp spit on the cop and was verbally abusive. Maybe didn't deserve what he got, but cops are human too. And if someone spit on me, I would see fit to punch them. Just sayin.

It's not a repeated action--it's the same moment, cycling over and over again until you click on the arrow and see the whole thing, which seems to take 58 seconds.

I've been treated way worse for way less, gotta say, and I didn't see anything here you could call a punch.

I agree that the guy's not unconscious or unresponsive. On drugs, yes. But unless there's something else, it looks like, as someone said, a nothingburger.

That’s pretty impressive that the cop could do that while in handcuffs!

That’s probably a twice a week situation in Denver and probably about every other arrest in Chicago or Detroit. If you can’t control emotions for something quite normal in the occupation you shouldn’t accept the job.

The guy right or wrong was in HANDCUFFS... He spit on the floor quite a bit earlier so the officer was aware he was a spitter. And they ALL say they want to do it with your wife. lol

The guy baited him and the officer lost his professionalism and crossed the line of his professional duty. The Sandmann kid did a better job of holding his temper.

We had a guy, Cecil Leadinghorse who ran up a $2,000,000 hospital and transport tab paid for by the taxpayers for this same type of nonsense. My crews and I responded to him twice a day on many days. We never roughed him up, but often would take him back to his subsidized apartment instead of transporting whenever his vitals would allow. But he really wanted to go to the hospital to get some free food and attention from the nurses.

One time he was pulling this type of scam laying in front of a planter in front of a McDonalds. At that time I was a driver. The third man was taking his vitals and the Lieutenant was writing the report. I thought he would look better sitting up, so I sat him up in front of the planter. Then I thought that he would look a lot better siting on it, because that was what the planter was for.

So I got behind him on the planter, bent over and gripped the top of his jeans and gave him a good yank. My fingers slipped off his jeans but I had a good grip on the elastic band on the top of his tighty whities. My super wedgy pulled him all the way off the ground and when I let go it snapped him in the butt. He turned around and started trying to kick and punch me while he spit and made Cecil ninja sounds.

Then he ran into the McDonalds while yelling out an impressive stream of obscenities. He yelled that he wanted a coffee at the clerks and they responded that they had a court order banning him from the store. So he ran back outside and laid down in the exact same spot. So I ran over and grabbed at the back of his jeans. He got up and ran off while we all were laughing our butts off. No one had to respond to his hijinks for several days after that, but then he went right back into his old routine.

He eventually did make a recovery and is still alive today living in a nursing home.
