Prepping/SHTF Knowledge Base
Myself ^ | 3/13/2019 | Oshkalaboomboom

Posted on 03/13/2019 3:46:49 AM PDT by Oshkalaboomboom

I have set up a folder on the cloud for Preppers and SHTF situations. Right now it has almost 900 files and is about 7GB in size, with sections on prepping, homesteading, gardening, survival, etc. It is a labor of love, something to keep me busy while I was organizing my stuff. Hopefully it is just a beginning and it will end up as a knowledge base for those who like to get ready for the coming storm. It is on a protected site so you need a decryption key to get in. You will also need some basic files for reading pdf, epubs, mobi. These are easily available and free. For pdfs most people aready have Adobe. For general book reading on a PC my favorite is Calibre, also free, and for Android there are apps like Moon Reader, FB Reader, Cool Reader and a dozen others. Kindle reader is also free. Linux and Apple folks probably already have the tools necessary.

If you are interested in taking a look send me a PM and I will send you the link and decryption key. I'm also open to suggestions on how to better organize things, other files to add, more topics of interest. You can also download everything, organize it in your own way and upload it to a different site so we have some redundancy. Because I only have a free account it is limited to 10GB of traffic every 30 minutes. That sounds like a lot but if 3 people try to download everything at the same time it would be enough to choke the site, so be patient.

EVERYBODY...
Prepping saves you money. Now. Whether there’s disaster or not.
And if there is a disaster it saves big money, and maybe your life.

In 2013 I published a comprehensive book (three years in the writing) on this topic that I’ll unabashedly recommend - “When There is No FEMA” (NOFEMA). It’s available on Amazon (as a physical book only). I purchase the other prepping books when they become available, and NOFEMA is still the best of the bunch. In fact I’m starting to see the new books actually site NOFEMA as a reference.

I am replying to pm’s as soon as I see them but I also live in Spain, which is 6 to 10 hours ahead of most FReepers, so when most of you are just waking up I’m out running my daily errands. Be patient and I will get back to you :-)

______________
Needs repeated.

We are in a rough patch (hopefully light at the end of the tunnel)and I cannot tell you all the times our preps helped us over a period where bills were due before revenue arrived.

Not just a pantry, although that was paramount. We keep propane on hand, plus a device which allows us to fill 1# canisters for space heaters. Premium gasoline with stabilizer. Medications (we buy the 90-day refills). Alternative meds which save Dr. appointments (includes sources for antibiotics). Replacement items like gloves/socks,toothbrushes, etc. Extra glasses. Candles for power outages. Water, ditto.

We have a generator for outages....important in Spring when there is flooding here and we need to use pumps. Keeps the freezer running, too. Bottled water in the freezers.

Know how to repair essential machinery. Know first aid and how to treat relatively small medical emergencies. Pantry should have multiples of basics so you can put together a soup, bread or a casserole even when it is somewhat depleted.

So much more. We never stop learning.

We prepped for Y2K, and it wasn't nearly as grim as some had come to believe. And we found that some of our assumptions were unsound, and some of our stocks of supplies were unneeded or overblown. In short, the real events of Y2K made a nice shakedown and test of our plans.

A little more than a year later, on 09 November 2001, airplanes started hitting the World Trade Center. And the Pentagon. And we had our emergency plans and supplies in place, and knew we'd have others alongside us, and reasonably secure refuges from the troubles of that day, and any that might follow on the following days.

So far it has not come to that. But we continue to seek to improve our plans and preps and retailor them to our circumstances as they change. I think we're in pretty fair shape. But it is no time to not continue such preparations.

Note that the primary purpose of FEMA at its creation was not to ensure the health, safety or well-being of the citizenry, but to ensure Continuity of Government, that is, to protect those who failed to prepare for or prevent the emergency, disaster or catastrophe in the first place.

Prepper Ping - Online Library - no fee/ somewhat limited size access

Right now it has almost 900 files and is about 7GB in size,
with sections on prepping, homesteading, gardening, survival, etc.

Access to the library is via a decryption key available through OP FReeper " Oshkalaboomboom ".

Thanks for the post. BKMRK. BTTT. Keep an eye on Venezuela. Electricity is a luxury if there is no clean water or proper sanitation.
