I don’t believe it for a second. If the feds are looking for someone, they’re going to cull through all the data, guaranteed. The only difference will be when they go after a suspect whether they say the DNA match led them to the suspect or it was an “anonymous tip.”

I’d get good money that anyone who opts out gets red flagged and their DNA entered into the CODIS database immediately-on the suspicion that they have something to hide, of course...

opting-out probably gets you top priority for matching to everything they have DNA for. Every ancestor or living relative with a DNA sample would become prime targets if one took this option. It is like when a robo caller tells you to push 9 if you don't want any more robo calls.
