When a FR Thread is Pulled (Vanity)
Self | 3/25/2019 | Super7man

Posted on 03/25/2019 5:41:35 AM PDT by super7man

I am trying to understand the standards and criteria for a post and thread being removed from FR.

A few days ago, a thread regarding 2 Rottweilers killing a small child was removed.

The post was from a legitimate news report. The content of the thread was not surprising, facts and reports being referenced on dog attacks, and emotional appeals along the lines of "I will own whatever dog I want."

The point: This post was not different than many here at FR. Facts were being presented and a discussion was being had. Is there a stated criteria here at FR under which a Post and thread will disappear with no explanation? Sometimes I see a pop-up that states a thread has been pulled with some reason. This one just went away. Why?

Perhaps the source was from a site that has forbidden FR from posting their copyrighted material.

Perhaps the story had been posted several times already.

Perhaps the posting wasn’t properly referenced back to the original online story.

Without being able to see the original post, and just going by your explanation, there is no real way to tell why it was pulled.

The point is that this is a private board, run by Jim Robinson and his moderators, and what they say, goes.

Jim is the one who gets sued for copyright infringement, so they police infringement very carefully.

Because we’re sick of dog-fighting threads and I mean between the members of FR.

There are several objective criteria, as the first poster pointed out (like copyright and multiple posting), but subjective matters of judging good taste and community standards sometimes have to exercised as well.

I myself have had the overwhelming majority of my postings accepted, but have had some pulled - and sometimes for what I would consider subjective judgements on tastefulness, or how useful it might be to our community.

Although it is always a blow to morale to have some contribution rejected, I try to put myself in the shoes of the moderator to try to understand what their concern may have been.

Although I may feel that I artfully skirted inside of the line in a technical sense, it is natural that others sensibility and judgements will vary from mine, especially in the grey areas close to the line - all part of living with others.

Maybe getting torn apart by dogs was just too much of a downer, without as much perceived importance to advancing Conservatism, for a given mod at a given time. We also can’t rule out that they may have been drinking (just kidding mods).

Doesn’t mean we don’t love you and want to hear from you. Hope you can laugh off our smaller disagreements, and continue to work together on the bigger causes, with a light heart.

i was on that thread. somebody called the waahmbulance.
If you don’t want to read about it, don’t click on the thread, and then cry to the mods.
and on a side note, don’t refer to other folks here as bitches. That’s just rude. ( I’m sure that’s nOT why the thread was pulled)

Lots of stuff gets posted here that has zero to do with Conservatism.
The dog posts are not hurting anybody, except the dog owners whose panties are in a bunch.
and i am a dog owner.

It’s probably not personal, just business. Dog threads can get rather heated, especially when there is a loss of a human life.

Dog attack threads, like Civil War threads seem to provide little but a place for bald men to fight over a comb.

I didn’t like your post so I went ahead and had it removed. I don’t remember why I had it removed but I might have been aggravated because my coffee wasn’t hot enough so I was taking my frustration out on random, anonymous Freepers. You might want to try re-posting it as I’m in a better mood this morning.

It would be a nice enhancement to FR, instead of threads just mysteriously disappearing, if the mod could put a short reason WHY, where it could be seen.

Because it was about Rottweilers, not pit bulls.

Sourced from a banned source. Duplicate topic. I have seen plenty of killer-dog breed threads.

IIRC, multiple threads that did not seem particularly objectionable got zapped in the space of several hours, about then. Maybe the Mod was in a bad mood. Or just tired of the rehash - but then, important a story as it is(!), 5 bazillion rehashes of the Mueller report story (a few with bogus info or titles) are a bit tiresome too.

Also IIRC: This (dog) story linked back to a somewhat “anti-dog” website (probably not a copyright issue, I’d think), and the yank “reason” given was, I believe, something to the effect of “get a life”.

If you never know why then you can never learn where the boundaries are as to not violate them again in the future. It can create even more work for the moderators because without a warning or explanation the boundaries will just keep being violated.

Well, heck, the “dog” issue gets into gov’t regulation (and over-regulation, at times), so it’s not a totally non-political issue. If YOUR dog’s breed was banned in your locality, and it’s not even a “fighting” breed... What would you think???

Agreed, though, obviously, that a great number of non-pol threads are posted here. Some are very interesting, some are fun (like the music threads!), and some are just a welcome relief.

:-)

Absolutely, I have no argument with that. I was just wondering if there was a stated criteria under which members would expect their posts to disappear.
