Atlanta City Council passes measure opposing state's 'heartbeat' bill

The Atlanta City Council has voted unanimously to advance a resolution opposing the state's "heartbeat" abortion bill that passed earlier this month.

The legislative body passed the symbolic resolution "expressing the city’s opposition" to the bill banning abortions in the state once a fetal heartbeat is detected in a 13-0 vote on Monday.

Let us get past the fact that the city cannot ignore a state law. But then again, this is the City of Atlanta and since the majority of the state hates Atlanta, it tends to get a lot of wiggle room in the things that it does.

But, one of the most glaring things in the article, IMHO, is(from the article):

"The vote comes as a number of district attorneys across the city have vowed not to prosecute women seeking abortions in the state in wake of the new law."

I'm assuming that the writer meant to say something like: a number of ADAs in Fulton County have vowed not to prosecute women.......

Well, if that is the case, either way, then this is just another glaring example of everything that is wrong with the justice system. The District Attorney can decline to prosecute if they feel that there isn't enough evidence. However, they don't have much of a choice in things, when it comes to going before a Grand Jury. Yes, they can slow walk it. They may not even present it. But, at the end of the day it is the, PEOPLE, that decide what will get prosecuted, not a county lawyer.

Additionally, the law states that women, who choose to have an abortion CANNOT BE PROSECUTED. The law applies to doctors/health practitioners.

Other DAs in the state have made statements about it as well, saying they won't prosecute, telling me that they didn't read the law. Their statements are knee jerk reactions. Or they're morons.

These are the people that are defending us in court and trying to put away the bad people.

Wow, not one non-infanticide member of the Atlanta City Council ? That’s pretty sick and evil. Sounds like they should be BOYCOTTED for supporting evil.

This! This is why the electoral college is SO important. Without the electoral college we give cities like Atlanta, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, etc, the ability to remake America in their image. (And wouldn't that be ugly.) Maybe the Founders were right and only land-owners should vote, and I'd add land-owners having children of their own. The only way to make the future better is to be invested in it.

One of the great delusions of our day is widespread Black support for the tool that was designed to slaughter their own babies. “Blacks for Abortion” is no less puzzling than a “Jews for the Holocaust” movement would be. Strong delusion, indeed.

You and the folks that envisioned and enshrined the Electoral College are 100% correct. Obviously why the Left wants to abolish it, right?

Personally, I’d love to see the Electoral College applied on the state level as well. No reason that Atlanta, Columbus/Muscogee, Augusta, Savannah, should have that much sway over the other 150-odd counties in the state. I don’t care if there are 1 million voters in Fulton County and 200 voters in Union County, Fulton shouldn’t outweigh Union so easily. And it’s like that all over the country. Illinois is about as RED as it gets if it weren’t for Chicago. Same thing for Colorado, NY, and Cali, for that matter. Imagine what this country and our Congress would look like if that were the case. Toss in the abolishing the 17th Amendment and letting the State legislatures pick. We’d be looking at at least 60-65 Republican’s in the Senate. Not that they are all shining Conservative stars, but I’d take that over what we have now.

I don’t see the country as you, I, and a whole lot of others, lasting much longer, in the way that we’d all like it to. There’s too much division and there’s really no way to change anyone’s mind. Of course, there are a lot more silent folks in the middle that we never hear about. But, the Left is getting loonier and more hateful by the minute. And, a significant part of that can be laid at the feet of the previous occupant of the White House. He was allowed to act with impunity and never be held responsible. And now the Left thinks they can do the same thing.

It’s interesting. Talk to someone that doesn’t like the President. Ask them why. Their answer’s are because he did this or that or because he said this or that. Next question(s)...give me an example of him doing ‘this or that’ or him saying ‘this or that’. I think, about 90% of the time, they won’t be able to answer you. I’m not sure you can compete against that, nor should you have to. Look at these college kids that are interviewed. They have no idea what they’re talking about and just regurgitate what they hear, without being able to support it with facts. How would you feel if you’re the parent, signing checks, finding out that your kid has been transformed in some robotic socialist.

It’s late at night and when I opened the article I thought is said “Atlantic City Council...” WHAT?!? As a Jersey exile now living in the Sonoran desert, I couldn’t believe that my home state would actually do something intelligent or decent. Thank God I read far enough into the article to realize skimming is no way to read a headline.

For now, it looks like the 6th District is akin to the Berlin Wall. It’s creeping your way. The 6th just elected a gun control activist that may not have even lived in the state. How does a gun control activist win, anywhere in Georgia, outside of Atlanta?

It’s creeping, though. As sad as that is. I’m east, off of 20, and its coming my way, as well. Disgusting.

If you mean Lucy Mcbath....Jaren Handel the Baptist socialite was the most miserable candidate ever. Cherokee county is as red as it can be. Plus the wrather’s good....for the most part

That whole election process up there was a nightmare from the moment Price left and Ossoff almost pulled off the special election. Handel may have made a name for herself(maybe) when she was on the local level, but nothing after that. Makes me really wonder how much of this stuff is rigged. She is/was a nightmare. Just a loyal puppet to either vote, Yes or No, whenever she was told to.

Cherokee is Red. I used to work with the Sheriff. But, those Northeastern liberals are piling in, up there.

Anyone can say what they want, but the fact that Abrams was even 50k votes down scares the hell out of me. An avowed Socialist shouldn’t have been that close.

My fear is Georgia becoming another Illinois, et al, where the urban areas(Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta, Columbus), with their dense population rule the roost.

I like my trucks and guns.

The Hill is especially good for unintentionally hilarious and contradictory sentences and headlines.

A ‘legislative body’ passing a ‘symbolic’ vote has all the impact of a bum urinating in the breeze.

You are correct. However, they represent a sizeable portion of the state’s population. And that sizeable portion agrees with them. And as more of those types continue to pile into the Atlanta Metro Area, it starts to become more than just a “legislative body and a symbolic vote”. It starts becoming, pretty much every other state in the country, like Illinois, Washington, Oregon, NY, Cali, Colorado, where the liberals in the cities control everything.

Understood

Maybe this is where we can get the legislature to pass a county electoral process for the state

Handel got her country club and church ladies out in the primary. A primary that was unfortunately loaded so votes would be split
