Is Open Carry Becoming More Common? Should It? (Vanity)

I live in Missouri. We have Constitutional Carry laws here so I can carry any way I wish. I used to not be a fan of open carry. I felt like the bad guy is always going to take out the person who visibly has a gun. Also I felt like open carriers were "showing off".

Now I'm starting to feel differently. I usually tuck in my shirt but don't like IWB holsters. I can simply get to the gun easily if I wish to from my simple but effective Bulldog belt holster.

Is open carrying becoming more common? Do you open carry? If not, why not?

I have had a concealed carry license for over 30 years.
The only time I open carry is when hunting.
Open carry tells the bad guy who to shoot first.
I don’t advertise on my clothing, or when carrying a handgun.

Not me. I’m non-violent, man.

Peace and love, baby, peace and love.

I will not open carry simply because I do not want some lefty-looney saying: “Look, a gun!!!”. Many lefties will do it simply because they are attention whores, not because they feel threatened.

And, why open carry when you can conceal carry? No one needs to know what I am carrying. Open carry also makes a person a target in a bad situation, or creates the opportunity to have it taken away.

I do open carry on our own land.

There’s definitely been an uptick in open carrying that I’ve noticed in the past several months. And I’m glad for it.

I can see where some might think it a deterrent, but the sight of a gun triggers liberals. That could be a plus, but they sometimes freak out and call the cops on a “gunman” in a store. I’ll keep mine out of sight until I need it.

In some places if you open carry (even if legal) you’ll get swarmed by cops because some snowflake will have a breakdown upon seeing a weapon.

I open carry, but have enough shirt coverage to not get asked questions.

I’m not afraid of printing, I’m not afraid of exposing when I reach. I have learned that I care enough for those valuable seconds to not be afraid of what people think.

Ditto.

I don’t own a firearm but support the 2A.

Open carry creeps me out. I can only imagine the impression it makes on antiguan types. It also makes one a likelier target when the SHTF.

CC seems a better idea. The bad guys don’t know who’s carrying so it may be a better deterrent that way.

I saw a fat woman go into hysterics in a Walmart checkout line. She screamed over and over, “He got a gun!” Turns out she had seen it when his shirt pressed against it on the small of his back. A cop rushed over with his gun drawn. The man hardly moved from when this started. He handled it very well, but it ended up with the manager telling the guy to never come back. I stayed close enough to see but not hear. It looked like the guy had a licensee and the cop returned his gun disassembled. The cop acted pissed off at the CCW man, but said nothing to the smug woman who acted like she was some kind of hero. She could have precipitated a shooting incident as the cop seemed really “jazzed” by the whole thing.

I had a close woman friend who basically cut off our relationship when she found out I carried. Due to these incidents I carry concealed and never let anybody know I have a gun.

You never know when you are going to run into the screaming Walmart-lady.

there is a time for open, and a time for concealed. Depends on the situation.

“Open carry makes you a target”: excuse me while I pick myself up from rolling on the floor laughing.

Although I disagree, in current jurisprudence, concealed carry is a state controlled privilege, open carry is a RIGHT (in states where rights actually exist).

As for the OP, check out www.opencarry.org

As an aside, although I open carry on a regular basis, I’d sure as hell make sure I was doing so if I were to find myself around various leftist groups/individuals.

That’s very interesting, but it goes against Walmart policy, as they have NO corporate policy against open carry.

If the individual took the matter up the chain of command, not only would the manager been edumacated, but the open carrier probably would get a gift card for his trouble.

I prefer to carry concealed, although in Texas, we can carry either way. I don’t subscribe to the notion, though, that open carriers are more likely to be “taken out” by a perp. Most perps don’t want to risk a gunfight they may lose, they just want to stick someone up for booze, cash and/smokes,etc. Most of them will simply move on to easier pickings. Of course there will be a few exceptions, and if it’s a Muslim terrorist that suddenly goes all jihady, (is that a word?) all bets are off. But even in those rare circumstances, it should be remembered that a proper open carry holster is nearly always much faster to deploy the weapon from. I am getting a little old, I’m not fast, but I’m a pretty good marksman. I prefer concealed, and hope if trouble breaks out, I may be able to duck out of sight or get behind cover until I can deploy my weapon. Like one man once said, “No one survives enough gunfights to really become an expert”

I like the open carry laws although I doubt I ever will except here in the woods.

Mainly it stops cops from arresting you if you accidentally let your weapon show.

Main thing is if you ain’t armed you lose. I don’t open carry, I do ccw always. I see someone open carry, I don’t care. If everybody carried there would be less mischief. IMO. Practice, carry, Be Safe.

I’m from California. I do have a ccw, but it’s not that many years ago, we had open carry. Back in those days, I felt real uncomfortable carrying in the cities, rural towns no problem. I would open carry if I could.
