Today's Cryptogram is from The Arkansas Gazette
You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter.
For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
Solution to our last puzzle:
I TAKE IT TO BE A PRINCIPAL RULE OF LIFE NOT TO BE TOO MUCH ADDICTED TO ANY ONE THING. TERENCE
Some controversy yesterday with the word PRINCIPAL. Some of you said it should have been PRINCIPLE.
ABCA, second word...small words follow from that....
I think you have it backwards. It should be “ principal.”
So, you agree that the quote, written was correct.
Which time? As it first appeared, yesterday, it was incorrect.
A tad over a minute.
Original puzzle was PRINCIPAL
Used as an adjective, as in the quote, “ principal” is the proper word. The adjective form of the other would be “ principled.”
Then there is the other 50 percent.
Had to google the author, otherwise easily guessable.
I believe you forgot to add the ping list, this time :-)
The most common letter; a three-letter word; a four-letter word; a four-letter word very similar to the first four letter word (no, not THAT way!); off to the races.
No, I'm not faking it. ;-)
Ssssshhhhhhh! I feel smarter when I solve it before the ping. On the other hand, it’s Sunday, and I’m anticipating a Bonus puzzle from Magnum 44. Maybe the ping would get him going.
A quick and easy cryptogram this morning about fake news...clever and appropriate given recent events.
Oops!
Solved everything but the author in a few minutes, yeah, yeah, yeah...
“Principle” is already synonymous with “rule” - “principle rule” doesn’t make much sense. “Principal” is correctly used in the quote in the sense of “foremost.” My 2 cents!
(BUT since Sister Mary Gertrude was the PRINCIPAL, she was a PAL in the sense of "I AM ONLY STRIKING YOUR KNUCKLES WITH THIS RULER FOR YOUR OWN GOOD, SO I AM YOUR PAL).
While principle went towards money etc
NOW, if one highlights 'a Principal rule of life' and right clicks 'google' when it opens it says ... do you mean Principle...etc...
Clear as mud????
OK. My mistake. Looking at my chicks scratch, I had it both ways while solving. -pal is the correct word.
