Think it more has to do with the weirdness of one’s first and middle names. And here in the east, it’s more common for a middle name to be derived from a surname rather than from a first name. And that also tends to make names either more unique, or show up as a family unique name set. Of course, then middle names migrate into first names. My favorite surname migrating name was Livingston Livingston.
