Hurricane Dorian has killed at least five people and destroyed as many as 13,000 homes during its path of destruction through the Bahamas.
The catastrophic onslaught sent floodwaters up to the second floors of some buildings, trapped people in attics and led to others fleeing from one shelter to another.
Dorian's relentless winds and rain battered homes and businesses on the islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama, which have a combined population of about 70,000 and are no more than 40 feet above sea level at their highest points.
The Grand Bahama airport was said to be under 6 feet of water. The exact toll of the devastation in the Bahamas will not be clear until the storm passes and rescue crews can get on the ground. The storm hovered over the islands for almost 24 hours.

Fortunately it has dropped all the way to a cat 2.
Yikes! Thanks for posting.
There may not be much of the Bahamas to go to after the storm leaves. :-(
The Prime Minister gave a televised speech and essentially said that many of you I’m speaking to now won’t be alive once it passes. This is horrifying stuff.
The island has effectively been subjected to a giant pressure washing. After hours under a Cat 5, I don’t expect to see much standing.
Fortunately it has dropped all the way to a cat 2.

It’s dropped but it’s looking more organized on radar now that it’s started to move.
that’s nothing...look at the video at the Weather Underground link below...the family is in the attic of their home and the waves are lapping at the roof...this was from yesterday!!
time to rebuild
The area where The Atlantis is, is most important for their possible survival. If ships cannot visit, they are in even deeper trouble then they are now because literally no money will come in to even have for rebuilding.
I stand in awe of the sheer power of a major hurricane. Terrible destruction.
Pray for everyone.
It’s horrible. Did we (the US) send them any aid? I hope so!

It's like 'man-made global warming'. Even IF humans died out earth would carry on as if nothing happened.
I wish everyone the best and hope they can recover and rebuilt quickly.
