I still like Trump’s chances: Pennsylvania's forgotten say the president is still their man for 2020
Washington Examiner ^ | 09-15-2019 | Rob Crilly

It is not an unusual sentiment in this blue-collar corner of Pennsylvania: “I voted Trump last time, and I’ll vote Trump next time because there’s a lot of loonies out there.”

What is unusual is that Gary Reese, 75, served as the Democratic mayor of Kingston, a town in Luzerne County at the heart of what used to be the state’s coal belt, in the 1990s. “The Democrats used to be about the working man,” he continued. “Now, they sound like communists.”

Luzerne County emerged as one of the bellwethers of Mr Trump’s unlikely 2016 victory, a place where a predominantly white, blue-collar electorate plumped for the Republican nominee. Here, successive victories for Barack Obama were transformed into a Trump win of 26,000 votes — more than half his winning margin in a state that flipped from blue to red.

Both Hillary and Biden have roots in this region of Pennsylvania.

This is not a typical thread here on FR.

Seems like virtually every news story discussing Trump's 2020 chances in purple or blue states, some Debbie Downer is quick to jump in and say forget about it, no chance, concentrate resources elsewhere.

I'm the 3rd post on this thread, no Debbie Downer yet. You guys must be sleeping in today.

“I voted Trump last time, and I’ll vote Trump next time because there’s a lot of loonies out there.”
Also the reason Trump will pick up a lot of people who didn't vote last time.
Maybe even a sizable fraction of previous conditioned-reflex-Democrats.

Because loonies.

The huge rally I went to in Leesburg VA in 2016 was filled with PA and WV residents.

Not really.
Biden left at age 10, in 1952, when the area was still somewhat prosperous. He never experienced the hard years that followed, when anthracite coal faded out, and dress factories moved south and then to Mexico and Asia.
Hillary only briefly visited in summers to stay at her grandparents cottage on nearby Lake Winona, where the neighboring homes were the summer homes of the Scranton elites, doctors and lawyers.

Those who grew up there in the 50s and 60s endured hardships watching their parents lose their jobs, decline from black lung, destruction of their business sectors from urban renewal, and population decline 50%.

Biden and Clinton were growing up in comfortable surroundings in Delaware and Illinois.

I believe Hillary has zero roots in Pennsylvania. She’s from an uppity area of Illinois. Then to AR with Bill. Then as an immigrant to NY to run for Senate. I could be wrong, but don’t think she has any PA connections.

Of course, Biden uses his “anthracite” PA roots to con the blue collar workers, but he left there before he was a teenager.

These people ...!!!

in two years, Lefty has done NOTHING to reach out to the common man. Lefty seems to be banking on hate for Trump as the sole reason to vote Left.
open borders is wildly unpopular with the middle class, but Lefty is deaf to that.
gun confiscation is wildly unpopular with the middle class, but Lefty is deaf to that.

With the House in Democrat hands what laws did they pass to reach out to the little guy...NONE. The Lefty focus on impeachment and endless investigations has lost all interest for the common man.

again Lefty neglect will hand victory to Trump.

If there is an effort to expose PA election fraud it could tip the scales.

I was born there and I agree with your post. I was back visiting before the election. Trump yard signs were everywhere!

Trump isn’t going to get any help from the State GOP. They got massacred in 2018 and apparently have the idiotball superglued to their hands.

Yes, I detest those Freepers. I got into it with some of them a week ago over Trump coming to New Mexico for a rally Monday night. They actually thought it would be better for Trump to cede NM to whoever the Democratic candidate will be and to focus on holding states he won in 2016. Pathetic.

Of course, four years ago, the same Debbie Downers were stating that Trump was wasting his time in PA.

"Fools gold..." they would chortle, "Ain't no chance a Republican will ever win there...on account of all the voter fraud in Philly..." they confidently proclaimed to the rest of us.

After the election, none of these losers ever admitted that they were 100% wrong.

They are on the clock. The DNC only pays for so many hours and they don’t volunteer to work for nothing.
