Lucious? Who names a school Lucious??

A spanking would solve the problem. But nooooo, can’t have that these days.

When the grandmother explained to the officer that the brat had a medical condition — “sleep apnea, we’re working on it” — the officer replied that he, too, had sleep apnea and he didn’t go around throwing tantrums and kicking people.

Sure a lot of replies for an incomprensible story. Who in the devil is HE?

“”he said ‘there was an incident and she kicked somebody and she is being charged and she is on her way,’” Kirkland explained.
The disorienting chaos was too much for Kirkland to process.
She has a medical condition that we are working on getting resolved and he says, ‘what medical condition, she has a sleep disorder, sleep apnea,’ and he says, ‘well I have sleep apnea and I don’t behave like that.””

This is a charter school. They’re supposed to be the best after Catholic schools.

Light spankings cure tantrums and a splash if ice water in the face,a kid has to know their limits or they will be brats for life.

Trayvon’s school called the Florida cops on him when they found burglar tools and women’s jewelry in his backpack. The cops did nothing. Then there was Cruz. Hopefully, Florida’s cops are stepping up.

“”The 6 year old in the video is doing a poor job of acting sweet.””

Where do you see a video you refer to in your reply to #17?

Zero tolerance rules protect school administrators no longer allowed to think and reason, to put things in context, to make judgement calls - just follow the rules.

Just follow the rules if you want to keep your job. Let the police handle it. If you want to be a maverick or one of those "inspirational authority figure teachers" that they made movies about in the 1980s, you are putting your job, savings, and possibly your freedom at risk.

Yes “Board of Education”.  My Dad was a HS Shop teacher and coach. His gift to each new teacher hired was a custom wood paddle with their name burned on it.

Some used theirs, others hung them in their classroom as a warning. I don't recall a girl ever being paddled, just boys, but girls were required to wear dresses to school back then (1960s).

I'm sure each teacher took their paddle with them in retirement or another school as they were very nicely finished.

Sometime long after I graduated policy changed and teachers could no longer discipline students but only send them to the principals office.  Delayed consequences are less effective than on-the-spot correction.

I had Attention Deficit Disorder. My father took a
belt to my ass, the wax flew out of my ears, and
I was cured.

There is so much information missing. A grandmother’s tantrum could have been the girl picking up a sharp object and threatening someone. But I think this child has never been disciplined.

Yes, “risk” is what it became ruled by - schools being sued.

Our massively litigious society helped create the zero tolerance rules in our schools.

What was missing was a concerted public movement to provide legal and taxpayer backstops to help schools defend against frivolous suits, because even when the school was right the cost of defending their action could be a budget buster. The schools opted for zero tolerance rules to take any judgement call out of any action, so they could just say “those are the rules and we did follow the rules”.

Yes. The suspension is what caused mama to send Trayvon to Dad’s. Dad couldn’t be bothered so dumped him on his girlfriend. She lived in the apartment complex where he ran into Zimmerman.

In my day, a paddling at school would guarantee another one at home. I can’t imagine arresting and charging a child for throwing a tantrum, and kicking or hitting, or whatever. A six-year-old is not fully in charge of his/her emotions. This is crazy and I hope the judge has some common sense and dismisses this! And by the way a child can have sleep apnea. In an infant it can be fatal. Have you ever heard of SIDS?

That this child is undoubtedly the product of a home in which she was never told no, the story illustrates that educators and police officers have absolutely no common sense or judgment these days.
