MINNEAPOLIS — Saying its top priority is the safety and well-being of customers, Cub Foods is asking shoppers not to openly carry firearms in its stores.

The announcement was made Saturday on the retailer's Twitter account: "While Minnesota is an open-carry state that allows individuals with lawful permits to carry firearms, we also respect the concerns and feedback shared by many of our customers following the recent tragic events throughout our country. Therefore, we're respectfully asking our customers, other than authorized law enforcement officials, to no longer openly carry firearms into our stores."

What is not clear at this point is what actions Cub will take with permitted customers who refuse to cooperate with the policy.

They haven't actually posted their stores with legal signage.

True to form, the local media is ignoring the wording from Cub Foods on their Twitter feed, claiming that Cub is saying they want NO guns in their stores. Period.

I'm waiting for Cub to post a no gun sign at their front door.

Won't happen.

So, a robber must keep his gun in his pocket while robbing the store?...............

Mass shootings overwhelming occur in “gun free zones.” That is a simple fact. Fun video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYL0yN110go

Request denied. Local Smiths/Kroger customer service folks said they will NOT be enforcing the “requests” on locals. Thanks to a fellow FReeper for asking them. Not that I open carry anyway but have seen some do so.

I just became aware that Sprouts (grocery store) posts 30.07 AND 30.06 signage, meaning that they forbid even concealed weapons.

They’ve lost my business.

The thing is, I have shopped at Cub for as long as I can remember and I have NEVER seen anyone open carry.

A solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.

We’ll just have to wait and see what the bad guys response too this is.

Most, if not all Cub Foods stores in the Twin Cities area also have TCF Banks inside. Many have been robbed at gunpoint.

How will they know if you’re packing?

That’s my observation, as well. Never seen anyone open carry in a Cub. In fact, I’ve never seen anyone open carry anywhere in the Twin Cities. I’ve come across it occasionally outstate. Usually a dude in blaze orange.

So, which would you rather have - open-carrying individuals serving to deter criminals (Oh dear! Look at all those citizens with guns hanging on their hips - guess I’d better find a store with nobody carrying) or people concealed carrying (Oh dear! I have no idea which of these people are carrying - guess I’d better look for honest work.)

I prefer the latter.

What happens if you’re found to be violating a store’s gun-free policy? Is it a criminal infraction?

In Wisconsin, if a private property owner does NOT allow guns to be carried, and someone is hurt who might have had a gun to protect himself, the property owner can be held liable.

Frankly, if Cub is okay with concealed carry but not open carry because they don’t want to deal with hysteria needlessly, I’m okay with that. It’s the NO CARRY folks I don’t care for.

Yes, in Texas, if you conceal carry when the business properly posts the required legal ban statute, you can lose your concealed carry license and face possible criminal prosecution for illegal carrying of a weapon.

Of course, they would have to know you are carrying, which is unlikely because it’s CONCEALED.

Like I said, Cub is asking that no one carries openly.

The local media is lying, saying that Cub is now a gun-free zone.

No surprise.

They won’t, of course. But law-abiding citizens tend to be LAW ABIDING.

I personally think that businesses have a right to ban weapons if they want. But I think they should also be able to refuse business to certain groups, which they aren’t.

Consistency doesn’t seem to be a strong suit with these cultural Marxists.
