I don’t believe subs burn oil so heavy it won’t float on the surface.

The only oil I know of in that area that’s so heavy it takes special cracking plants to process comes from Venezuela.

My previous post I was addressing the statement in the article the oil is so heavy it won’t float on the surface, that it floats under the surface. That to me was a clue it was Venezuelan oil.

That seems a good hunch. By looks of the article a concerted effort is in play to determine the source. I have no idea the rate of travel for subterranean emissions.

Oil + saltwater = tar. If it's fresh and shiny it comes from nearby. If it's solid in comes from further out. Neither one floats.
Texas Parks and Wildlife has a job where the guy drives down the beach collecting samples. (It's one of my dream jobs.)
