New Mexico climate task force releases report (Implies give up our lifestyle)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | November 21, 2019 | Dan Boyd And Theresa Davis

A New Mexico climate change task force released its first report Thursday, citing progress that has been made to combat the “climate crisis” and recommendations for the state climate strategy.

Among other findings, the task force said New Mexico produced more than 66 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions in 2018 – about 1% of the national total. The state is home to about 0.6% of the nation’s population ...

Overall, New Mexicans produce 31 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per person per year, the report found. The national average is 18 tons per person.

“It is not hyperbole to suggest the stakes are higher than perhaps ever before in human history,” Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, a Democrat, said in the introduction to the 28-page report, while adding that New Mexico would “step up” to the challenge.

In its report released Thursday, the task force recommends that state agencies “pick up the pace of our work” to reach the emission targets set by the Energy Transition Act, a landmark renewable energy bill passed during this year’s 60-day legislative session.

New Mexico is already experiencing the effects of climate change, according to the report, which cites hotter and longer summers, more intense storms, more frequent droughts, and declining air and water quality.

“Even with current and planned policies to reduce our emissions, we will likely fall short of our goals without a broader market-based program to reduce carbon usage and emissions,” the report reads.

While environmental groups praised the report, organizations like Power the Future took issue with the state’s initiatives. “This is a love letter to radical environmentalists disguised as a government report,” said Larry Behrens, western states director for the group. “The ideas presented will kill energy jobs in our state while green corporations will reap the profits.

Below is some information from the report:

Reducing methane emissions from the oil and gas industry through statewide regulations is stated as the “highest priority” for New Mexico’s energy transition.

In New Mexico methane makes up 31% of New Mexico’s emissions. Nationally, methane is 10% of emissions. The Environmental Protection Agency has acknowledged that methane contributes to global temperature increases.

The oil and gas industry generates greater than 60% of the New Mexico's methane emissions. Nationally, that sector contributes 31% of national methane emissions.

Our radical environmental left-wing governor faces a corundum - New Mexico revenue has skyrocketed to record levels – an estimated $7.9 billion in the current budget year – due primarily to an ongoing oil production boom in the state’s southeast corner. The legislature is already spending the surplus by increasing New Mexico teacher salaries, restoring depleted cash reserves and appropriating nearly $400 million for highway construction and repairs statewide.

With all of that and New Mexico being #3 in national oil and gas production, the governor is faced criticism from environmental advocacy groups for not doing more to address climate change. To counter the criticism, she said New Mexico is taking more decisive steps toward a renewable energy-based economy than many other states.

And the latter statement refers to new laws that will prohibit electric energy generation in the state from fossil fuels by 2045. As already seen in California, such laws mandating generation by renewable energy have already led to large customer rate increases and unreliable supply at some times (brownouts in summer unrelated to those due to high winds and forest fires).

Also in the works is the drafting of new regulations to reduce/prevent methane emissions from the O&G industry. They are supposed to be drafted in conjunction with input from the industry, but we all know how that comes out with the foxes in charge of the hen house.

I might consider giving up my lifestyle if algore and Osama Obama give up their multi million dollar beachfront mansions.

If we continue to put millions of tons of stuff into the air won’t the earth tip over?

Meanwhile, New Mexico and Albuquerque in particular, the crime rate has exploded. Why deal with real issues when you can try to get control of the weather ?

The best, quickest way to reduce CO2 emissions in America is to boot 20 million illegal aliens. They'll produce much less CO2 back in their home country.

On the "Climate Change" front...the Town Meeting of Brookline,Massachusetts (the town where the Tank Commander,Mike Dukakis, got his start) just passed an ordinance outlawing gas and oil heating systems in all new residential and commercial construction and major rehabs of existing structures.

Given that the Tank Commander still lives there this isn't even slightly surprising.

This is all absolute bullshit.

C02 is what plant life relies on. Reduce C02 and you reduce plant growth. Reduce plant growth and you reduce the crop yields. Reduce crop yields and people starve.

This is not a report on how to slow climate change.

This is a guide to starving millions of people to death.

“Reducing methane emissions from the oil and gas industry through statewide regulations is stated as the “highest priority” for New Mexico’s energy transition.”

This is stupidity on steroids. Methane has a half life of only 7 years once in the atmosphere. It is not important.

You are correct. In the geologic past before humans we had CO2 levels that were multiple times higher than today. Life flourished on earth at this time and man did not have one damn thing to do with it. CO2 is plant food.

Actually if one looks at geologic history we are in a CO2 drought. CO2 is good.

I don't know how accurate it is but I've read that we're only 30 parts per million above the level required for our current rate of plant and crop growth.

If I'm not mistaken, the "save the planet" crowd want to reduce C02 by a good bit more than 30 parts per million.

If figures that a bunch of wealthy eugenics fans would be sponsoring the man made climate change lie.

Of course what they overlook is the electric heating requires electricity which is inefficient in that there are system losses in the lines from the generation plants to the home. And to offset those losses more electricity must be generated, currently by fossil fuel and maybe an old-style nuclear plant (if any are still operating). And further, as those are decommissioned in favor of renewables, the cost of generating becomes greater and the possibility of outages becomes higher also (many decentralized sources of power become subject to storms, wind or ice on blades and power lines will decrease reliability). So what has been a reliable source of heating at a reasonable cost will lose both of those in the era of all renewables.

That is their goal. The elimination of all but 500 million human beings. Their own version of genocide/eugenics. Do the math. That’s well over 90% of the human race.

This is not a report on how to slow climate change. This is a guide to starving millions of people to death.

It can be argued that this is what the earth-first radicals want - a planet with less population so that Mother Gaia can recover from the scourge of mankind.

But, if predictions of real climate scientists are to be believed, the earth is about to enter several decades of increasingly colder temperatures due to changes in the sun's radiation output. There are cyclical fluctuations that are not just years or decades long, but centuries and their combination at the same time is predicted to lead to cold similar or worse that occurred in the period called the little ice age. So the irony is that if those predictions are correct, the need for fossil fuel for generation and heat will be greater than ever and steps taken to eliminate them will only bring greater hardship on this country's population.

You sir, are a piker! 30 million illegals, 1 million visa overstays and every ‘refugee’ that’s still on welfare after a year, plus their children. A start. Oh, and just eviscerate the visa program.
