Thousands of passengers have been stranded at the Denver International Airport as power outages on the West Coast, widespread road closures and huge pileups on icy roads, add to the mix of travel chaos for millions ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
A storm packing heavy snow and high winds that wreaked havoc as it whipped through Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska is marching into the upper Midwest as anxious Thanksgiving travelers brace for a busy, if not perilous, week.
Forecasters said about 21 million people from the West Coast to the Great Lakes are under winter weather advisories and in Southern California and Arizona, another 17 million are under flash-flood watches.
More than a foot of snow is forecast in parts of Wisconsin Wednesday. A number of schools have canceled classes in the state as heavy snow and high winds caused deteriorating travel conditions.

Unexpected!
Sounds like a fun trip over the river and through the woods.
I’m a bit of a sicko. I love adverse driving conditions.
Thanks for reminding me why I moved to Southwest Florida. Im off to the golf course.
475 flights were canceled at DIA yesterday.
Oh, and a lot of the stranded passengers were Air Force Academy cadets trying to get home.
Were the schools in Wisconsin not already closed for the Thanksgiving holiday?
Just be global warming
GO BY AIR!
Power cuts at terminals? Does that mean CNN ain’t being shown?
Sometimes its really, really good to live in the South.
I make it a point to avoid DIA. Their weather is always weird. Got stuck there overnight in June 2018 because of a sleet storm of all things. The weather was so bad no flights came in or went out and then the pilots they had all ran out of flight time so that when our plane was finally okayed to leave 16 hrs later they couldn’t find a pilot for it. I said never again and avoid the airport.
It’s south of us, though we are expecting some snow today.
Brined the turkey yesterday it goes on the kamado grill at 4:00 PM this afternoon.
Happy travels to all of you FReepers!
And, of course, 'Bluecifer' killed its creator... 8~)
I'm stuck in Chicago as well (ugh).
Global Climate Warming Change
This past summer my frau got diverted twice to Albuquerque to refuel because planes were stacked up and could not land due to high winds. Makes for a long day as she was still on EST when we go all got home.
Stupid journalists.
These headlines have been run and run and run every year since who knows when. There’s your climate change.
It was a good snow yesterday in Denver (our fifth this season). Snow plows were on top of it so today we are almost back to normal.
