With Trump’s planned rollback, it could soon cost more energy to wash Thanksgiving dishes

I prefer plastic plates - they burn just as well in the fire pit.

MAGA!

If the market supports it energy-efficient appliances will still be manufactured and available. I like choices.

Was it cheating that I bought an old Kenmore portable, off of Craigslist, that has a garbage grinder in the bottom? It could probably clean off a baked on musk rat...

There is a black market in real toilets. They are actually smuggling in high flow stools from Canada. You might check with a local contractor...

There’s also old-fashioned dishwasher detergent, now labeled only for commercial establishments.

Both. There are hardware issues driven by the appliance efficiency extremists in government, and cleaner product formulation changes driven by the EPA or similar. A big part of the cleaner issues are from removal of TSP, trisodium phosphate, which is an excellent surfactant. I’ve got a box in the laundry room, and if I happen to have a real dirty load, will throw some in.

Dishwashers that actually wash dishes & toilets that actually flush are not a bad thing....

The Maytag dishwasher I bought about 3 years ago has a grinder in it and it works great. When I bought it it was 1 of 2 left in the appliance store and they told me they were being phased out. I never rinse dishes and they come out sparkling clean. It replaced an old Kenmore with a grinder in it that burned out.

That tank better filter it. Rainwater is not clean water.

And as reliable. Unfortunately, all modern appliances are cheaply made junk.

[Dishwasher power with TSP can still be bought for commercial applications. Any idea what the difference is between STPP and TSP?]

TSP leaves a mineral crust. Either stick with STPP or get one of the many rinse aids on the market, like Lemi Shine, the Walmart house brand, etc.

The same way a toilet that has to be flushed twice, or more, saves water.

Exactly - we have a couple of decent, newer toilets, and they do the job, for the most part, but oftentimes need an extra flush. On the other hand, the one OLD toilet we still have (it's at least 50 years old) can flush down a hand towel and be perfectly fine (and yes, I know this is true because I prematurely flushed while I was washing it up and that old towel was gone in a flash!)

We have a newer dishwasher and I HATE it -- it takes forever, the dishes are still wet when it's done (even with the hi-heat drying cycle) and there are always a few dishes/utensils that need another run.

We have stopped buying American appliances. The companies are ripping off Americans. We have had a Bosh dishwasher for 8 years and it does great.

There’s another perk besides energy. Those energy efficient appliances are under-powered and over burdened, leading to reduced utility life. Allowing more power means the appliances will last longer. You’ll get 10 or 15 years from a refrigerator or a washer instead of 5.

My old one did. The new one we purchased this summer is much quieter and takes about half the time.
