Amazon fires intensify Andes glacier melt

The study focused on one specific glacier - Zongo Glacier in Bolivia.

Dr de Magalhães Neto said: "Once deposited on the glacier, the [black carbon darkens] the snow/ice surface, which reduces its ability to reflect solar radiation - or sunlight." That darkened surface then absorbs more of the sun's energy, which amplifies melting.

While the findings were significant, the researchers said they did not come as a huge surprise: the same process has been seen elsewhere in the world.

"Greenland receives large amounts of black carbon from fossil-fuel origin due to North America and European industrialisation," said Dr de Magalhães Neto. "And black carbon from the burning of fossil fuels and biomass throughout the northern hemisphere has accelerated glacier melting in the Arctic."

10 thousand or more years - the rain forest is not millions of years old.

Not to worry!

White privilege (new snowfall each year) will soon oppress the Black ash & soot, blocking all of the Sun’s life-giving warmth.

The volcano in Iceland spews all sorts of crud all over the N hemisphere, someone ought to levy a fine on it, or the government of Iceland for harming the world....

Maybe a World court case could be filed to sue “mother earth” for crimes against humanity?

“Once deposited on the glacier, the [black carbon darkens] the snow/ice surface, which reduces its ability to reflect solar radiation - or sunlight.”

This is bad? Back in the 1970s it was suggested we mine coal, grind it to dust and spread it on the glaciers and ice packs to stop THE COMING ICE AGE!

The Vikings, oh so many years ago, burned wood to keep warm while living on Greenland.

Greenland came through just fine

The forest only goes back for 10-12 thousand years - before that it was open land with scattered forests. There is only one rain forest - there was none before the hundred year long comet strike on 10800 BC which changed the Earth’s climate and that has not recovered since.
