Joe Judge Brings in Jason Garrett to Be Giants’ Offensive Coordinator
New York Post ^ | January 17, | Paul Schwartz

Joe Judge has hooked his first really big fish as the Giants try to get out from under the deep end of the sea and start swimming closer to playoff waters.

The hope within Giants ownership as soon as Judge was hired as head coach was that the 39-year-old could attract and assemble a big-time staff — something Pat Shurmur could not do two years ago. Judge got the chance to sit down last Wednesday with Jason Garrett, and on Friday Garrett signed off to become the Giants’ new offensive coordinator.

Just like that, someone who spent the past decade trying (and often succeeding) to beat the Giants as the Cowboys’ head coach now joins forces with his former NFC East rival.

I knew Garrett would go to the Giants one way or the other.

Why?

At the same times, Jerry Jones must be angry.

I think this is awesome.

I originally that it was a bad idea for the Cowboys to fire Garrett. He needed just a few more years, maybe 4-5, for his system to take hold. It was just too brilliant a system for the dim Cowboy players to grasp.

Now that this brilliance has been picked up by the fellow NFC East Giants, the tradition of winning championships and success that Garrett brought to Dallas will be visited upon the Giants.

Oh, I should point out that I'm an Eagles fan.

Although I’m no fan of Garrett, in his defense, he was never really given the chance to be a head coach. Couldn’t pick his own assistant coaches, etc.

Once I hated the cowboys.
Now I just love jerry jones.
It’s my feeling that jerry is the AL Davis of the NFC.

There is a difference between all and jerry.

Jerry never sued the NFL

There was one time that I almost liked Jerry. When Deflategate happened, Jones got a group of owner together to remove Roger Goodell. But Goodell agreed to punish the Patriots, so they let him stay, so he could continue to ruin the NFL.

The generous side of me wishes the best for Garrett because he is a decent guy and maybe he will succeed once away from the shadow of the interfering Jerrah Jones.

The life long Cowboy fan wants “The Clapper” to do his oft habit of changing a hot series of plays into the uber conservative tactic and ruin the many chances to win the game.

I put money on the latter.

I think the reason the east is a joke is the fact they have owners who think they are football savvy.

Hysterical post. I know this is shocking, but due to extreme owner dysfunction going on two decades and extreme owner incompetence, I have switched a life long allegiance from the Redskins to the Eagles. This was two seasons ago and I have never been happier. This was not a bandwagon thing but developed over several years.

I don't demand a winner (that would be nice) but a team that can be competitive via a front office/coaches that have integrity and guts. Redskins have failed in this for 20+ years, ever since Jack Kent Cooke died in 1998/1999, I think. Enough was enough.

The Redskins have gone from having a decades long season ticket wait list to where one can now walk up minutes before game time and purchase a ticket.

The most recent hysteria from Dan Snyder is he fired the entire marketing department - 54 marketing staffers, like they are the problems causing the empty seats.

In the previous year, Snyder hired away the head NFL Marketing guru to head up the Redskins marketing dept. From what I read, the league was happy since they knew the Skins needed help, but no one is good enough for Snyder.

There has been some shock, such as, I can understand abandoning the Redskins, but Philly - the same division - not Denver or some other distant team. Anyway, Philly has great fans.

So one question - can Wentz stay healthy?

Is there another head coach in NFL history that iced his own kicker before a critical field goal?

Garrett was actually a good offensive coordinator at Dallas. Jones took that away from him when he became head coach.

I think the reason the east is a joke is the fact they have owners who think they are football savvy.

Ding, ding, ding, pay the man, we have a winner.

When owners meddle in the football operations, the end result is rarely positive.

The Rooney model has worked for half a century, hire good people and let them run the team.

Give them guidelines, and then get out of the way.

The real key is the hiring process, and then the ability to control your "owner's natural prerogative"...knowing that you can jump in at any time, but keeping yourself in check.

Because Garrett played for the Giants, and they were familiar with him. Plus, they know with Garrett he’ll be motivate when they play against Dallas.
