At least two Honolulu police officers were killed Sunday morning in a shooting near Diamond Head, law enforcement sources told Hawaii News Now.
Meanwhile, a house fire apparently intentionally set in the wake of the shooting has spread to at least four homes in the affluent area. The flames and thick smoke is visible for miles.
The circumstances that led up to the shooting remain unclear.
But sources tell Hawaii News Now that the suspect in the shooting was being evicted Sunday morning and allegedly stabbed his landlord.

Was watching some of the feed and it may have been a retired priest. Hearsay from a neighbor..
I hope he’s gotten his due in the fire. Terrible, especially when nutcases kill police who are just walking up for a theoretically routine call.
A police officer relative says that there’s no such thing as a non-dangerous call.
I agree. At least one of the responding officers should have firearm out , locked and loaded
Heard the Hawaii News Now reporter say that he understands that the suspect was a 70-something year old Czech Republic native, who was a real trouble maker in the community, with multiple TRO’s on him and “several police visits a week recently” for threats, etc.

Hawaii, I believe, has the tightest gun controls in the US. You can still have a gun, but it takes work and a far lower percentage of people there bother to own guns...due to the ‘hassle’. Plus, of course, flying in with a gun is not easy, if even possible. I guess if you have a yacht with a good hiding place...but few people can do that.

These are two officers, so it’s hard to make they “couldn’t fight back” connection, but here are two people dead at the hands of someone the state thought they had eliminated, an armed killer.
States need to back way way off.
