Time for Some Traffic Problems in Wildwood: Murphy Shuts Down Major Highway Ahead of Trump Rally
Shore News Network ^ | 1/21/2019 | Phil Stilton

WILDWOOD-Just days ahead of President Donald J. Trump’s historic visit to Wildwood, Governor Phil Murphy’s administration has announced an emergency closure to Route 47, the main thoroughfare on the island.

According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation, “Beginning at 7 a.m., Monday, January 20, NJDOT’s contractor Mount Construction is scheduled to close and detour Route 47 in both directions between Indian Trail Road and Springers Mill Road for priority repairs to a culvert over Dias Creek resulting in sinkholes that are compromising the roadway. The project is anticipated to be completed by June 2020. Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses.”

Although the culvert repair was a scheduled repair, to be conducted later this spring, the administration pushed the project forward this week.

The road closures are expected to impact motorists traveling to the Trump Rally on January 28th at the Boardwalk Convention Center. The closure will not impact motorists traveling along the Garden State Parkway to attend the rally, but will impact those attendees coming from the southwestern area of the state.

Online, Trump supporters likened the closure to Bridgegate, a plot hatched by staffers of former Governor Chris Christie to create traffic in Fort Lee, New Jersey. The road is expected to remain closed through June.

Joseph Rullo, an online conservative media activist with over 350,000 followers on Facebook criticized the timing of the repairs as a political stunt to cause traffic during the President’s visit.

Most people coming north would just use the Garden State Parkway, but it is just suspicious that Governor Murphy would move this up on the schedule knowing that President Trump was visiting the area a few days later.

Sounds like BridgeGate Part II. People need to go to jail just as they did in BridgeGate.

Exactly! Over 100,000 ticket requests, the most for any Trump Rally to date!

The venue only seats 7,000

Sounds like a good plan to me. Historically, over half of Trump rally attendees are Democrats and independents. They will all see the intentional traffic jams and therefore choose to vote against the Democrat Idiots causing the roadblocks.

Scum & Vermin New Jersey, Governor, Murphy was frightened because the Trump organization has handed out over 100,000 tickets to this massive Rally!!! The voters of New jersey should force this low life Democrat to resign...immediately. Or, New Jersey voters can do nothing and die with the Governor as he continues to destroy the once great state of New Jersey!!! Go, Trumpie!!!

Maybe, just maybe the roads are unsafe to carry as much traffic as will arrive on that one day. If the road was already scheduled to be repaired and they moved up the date, it probably means that the road was not safe to begin with.

Maybe, just maybe the road is closed for the safety of travelers. I read that there was a sink hole.

I doubt that the road would be closed just to stop the Trump rally. This is a great opportunity for the locals to get some extra winter income so why would Murphy want to stop that?

There are other ways to get to Wildwood. If anyone was planning to leave early, maybe they should leave earlier...and bring a picnic basket...and have fun!

We are overcomers, not complainers or whiners!

For those that still take 47, get off on Swainton-Goshen Road at the traffic light (closed diner at the intersection) around mile marker 18-ish. It will take you to the Garden State Parkway (exit 10) and you can get off at exit 6 (technically RT 147) which takes you to the island through North Wildwood.

Do not go down to Exit 4 because Rt 47 (Rio Grande Ave) is under re-construction once you get over the bridge onto the island. It will be a complete traffic nightmare.

Worse case, go all the way to the end of the parkway which turns into Rt 109, and take a left at the light before going over the bridge into Cape May. That brings you onto the main island after going over the bridge near Cape May Inlet (nice scenic view). Just remember, 25 MPH means 25 MPH to the local cops.

One of Murphy's first acts as Governor was to outlaw "high capacity" magazines over 10 rounds.

No "grandfathering" or anything else.

Suddenly, tens of thousands of high tax paying citizens of New Jersey became Instant Felons.

The Courts will never protect and save our rights.

Just look at the performance of Judas The Overpaid Desk Clerk.

When Trump's lawyers dared to respond to the Democrats outrageous accusations of "treason", Roberts only then stepped in an rebuked "both sides equally."

What a tool.

BTW, since there will be no parking within two blocks of the convention center, the crowd outside with Jumbotrons will be a blast. There's a lot of parking space adjacent to the center that will be nothing but a sea of people. Looking forward to seeing ya'll there.

Possibly, but suspicious that the problem just happens right after the announcement and they just happen to push it up.

Maybe, just maybe the road is closed for the safety of travelers. I read that there was a sink hole.

Sinkholes get filled in all the time in NJ, this isn't a big deal. And doesn't require a road closure for more than a day.

I doubt that the road would be closed just to stop the Trump rally. This is a great opportunity for the locals to get some extra winter income so why would Murphy want to stop that?

Cause "Orange Man Bad" do I really need to give a reason why a SJW Governor would want to stop a Trump Rally on his turf?

I know Wildwood like the back of my hand !we go there every day when I visit my parents in Cape May in the summer

here is how you get to Wildwood the Funway go all the way to Cape May exit 0 right when you get to the bridge take a left and you will cross a cute little bridge it’s free on the way to Wildwood

when you end up coming in the south end of Wildwood-. Wildwood crest and it’s beautiful I highly suggest that you park for free and just go walk on the beach right there at Wildwood crest - there’s 300 yards of white powdered sand it’s unbelievable !

and then go to the rally

and furthermore Cape May is open all winter and they have incredible restaurant so if you need a good place to eat go to Cape May

I love love love love love love love the fact that our great and wonderful president is going to Wildwood to give a talk ! I couldn’t be more excited!

No not all of you were from the Northeast but understand this whereas New Jersey is a blue state - southern New Jersey is decidedly RED

You're reading something sinister in it when nothing like that is going on.

That section of Route 47 lost most of its business in 1947 when the Garden State Parkway was completed. The rest of it went away when the Atlantic City Expressway opened for business in 1964.

Most Wildwood and Cape May traffic uses the Route 55 freeway, which is the replacement highway for Route 47, thus bypassing such dumps as Vineland and Millville. Traffic off Route 55 either takes County Route 550 or Route 83 to finish the trip on the Parkway. (God only knows when they'll finish the last stretch of Route 55 leading to the Parkway.)

Wouldn't closing an alternate route, regardless of how it's being used in normal daily traffic, create more issues during such a high traffic event?
