Woman in Viral Airplane Seat Reclining Controversy Now Looking To Sue American Airlines: Report
Western Journal ^ | Feb. 15, 2020 | Erin Coates

One woman’s video of the airline passenger behind her punching the back of her reclined seat went viral last week.

Now she is reportedly looking to sue American Airlines.

The controversy began when Wendi Williams posted a video on Twitter of the passenger behind her shaking her headrest with repeated punches on her Jan. 31 American Eagle flight from New Orleans to Charlotte, North Carolina.

The man behind her was in the last row and reportedly asked the woman to sit upright so he could eat.

She did, but then later reclined again, and the situation escalated as was shown in the video that was recorded, according to Fox Business.

Williams originally tweeted, “I will be calling the FBI to press charges against the ‘man’ who mistook me for a punching bag. Anyone who doesn’t like it, I don’t care!”

According to Williams’ account of the situation, a flight attendant came over but instead of stopping the man, she offered him a complimentary cocktail.

You should be able to buy the seat in front and back of you for 50% off. You could purchase a seating zone.

The difference is just enough to keep your head from falling forward so you can sleep. The sad thing is the non reclining seats at the back of the plane and ahead of the exit row do not have this feature. When the guy in front of you uses his recline function you are double screwed if you are stuck in a non reclining seat.

The sardine effect is why I fly Delta, they are slightly better in the knee room department.

EXACTLY!! The lady paid for her seat and should be able to use all of it. The douche behind her should have been arrested for being unruly and disruptive and for harassing that lady in flight, and the airline should be sued for allowing it to happen, the stewardess should have warned him and told him to stop but they didn’t, that lady was harassed the whole flight and no one stopped it. That little soy boy should be doxxed and shamed for his tantrum, and banned from flying.

True. It’s disheartening to see how many people support either one of them.

It totally sucks when you have your tray table down with a drink on it. Then the inconsiderate passenger in front just bangs the seat back to recline. You either have to catch the drink or wear it in your lap.

Simple consideration of those around ones self and common decency solve this whole problem.

I believe that having a seat reclined into you is a thing to be borne, since the functionality is there and there is no written rule or restriction on its use.

When it happens to me, I grumble sometimes, but simply put my seat back if it is possible.

Knowing this man was all the way in the back, I felt a degree of sympathy, but any sympathy evaporated when I actually watched the video.

I thank God I wasn’t in the seat in front of him, because I might well have slugged him. I could see someone losing their temper and them hitting the back of the seat, but what he did made my blood pressure go up. There was something I immediately disliked about that person.

He had “Leftist” written all over him.

I had the gut feeling he was a Lefty.

The guy was in a seat that apparently could not recline. The woman who insisted on reclining her seat into his face is a self centered, selfish female dog. It was once considered to be bad manners to recline your seat on a passenger plane. Manners? Apparently manners are no longer a part of our culture.

Have to fly back to the states in a couple of weeks, not looking forward to that 14 hours

You should pick and airline that flies east to west.

ML/NJ

The guy is a dork. He should have asked her politely, and not bang on her seat. The woman went to a lawyer, seeing dollar signs in her eyes. Sure enough, she and the lawyer are going to go to court to get money. She is the one who is in the wrong. She should be fined for abusing the court system. The lawyer should be disbarred. The airline should bar her and the dork guy from flying with them.

Could have been avoided with a little consideration, and a few words spoken assertively and politely, and a willingness to meet the other half way.

I think that allowing your mental state to be altered by the lack of courtesy of others is a fool’s errand and will result in someone who is perpetually unhappy and dissatisfied.

If the guy asked her to put her seat forward and she declined, it should have ended there with the woman being a selfish jerk and the guy being a suffering passenger, since I think that any considerate and empathetic person would (and should) have put their seat forward.

But that guy just raised the ante and went all in on being a petulant, spoiled child and turned this into a national story. He should have been a mature adult and borne it.

Manners seem to be less of a component of today’s life than they used to be, but apparently so is being an mature adult, which results in this stupidity.

Yep. Exactly how I feel about it. She came across as a jerk, and he came across as an even bigger one.

Stupidity all around.

I flew a touch over 50k miles last year, mostly domestic(EWR<—>MCO) and my lifetime miles is around 750k.

I’m just under 6’1”. I will rarely recline my seat having been the victim of people that push it ALL the way back leaving me with no space. If I do recline, it’s never until it stops.

All that said, I pretty much refuse to book a ticket unless it’s First class, premium economy or one of the extra leg room seats, normally at the front. Jet blue is the only exception but even then, I’ll buy up at the front. It’s just worth it to me. Being trapped in a standard coach seat these days wears on my mental state to the point it’s just worth it to upgrade.

Make the airline CEOs do all of their work in a randomly chosen seat on the fold down table 8 hours every day.

Both of them need to be schooled in manners, common courtesy, and adult behavior.

She should sue! The dude obviously does not understand what it means to get the seats in front of the bulkhead. And yes, the attendant should be fired! The gal paid for full seat reclining. The dude, not so smart. The many times I’ve traveled from time-to-time experienced the same thing. I simply can rest my arms and head on the top of the reclined seat. NBD! And when needing room to eat, simply request the time and space from the person in front, after which they can come all the way back. This dude was an a$$!

Greyhound lines have more comfortable seats, you don’t have to put up with security, etc. There are just as many jerks on the bus as an aircraft.

With my status on Delta, I almost always get at least Comfort+. However, on those rare times I end up in coach, I find that Delta has squeezed the seats closer than any other airline. Can barely move to even get in the seat. Occasionally, for a variety of reasons, I am on another airline. Was surprised to find that all Southwest rows are about like Delta Comfort+. Not a fan of Southwest for other reasons, but I do know Delta coach seating is among the worst.
