After this debate, what possible rationale does Bernie Sanders have for staying in the race?
WP ^ | 3/15/20 | By Jennifer Rubin

The debate between former vice president Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) was entirely unnecessary given that Sanders is all but eliminated as a serious contender. He continues to take money from donors and encourage others to congregate (for example, phone banking), which is neither reasonable nor responsible. The debate changed nothing and suggests Sanders should have exited the race.

Biden made real news committing to pick a woman as vice president. Biden also promised to nominate an African American woman to the Supreme Court. Sanders tried to argue about Biden’s past votes on the Hyde Amendment, which restricts federal funding for poor women seeking abortions, but when pressed would only say “in all likelihood” he would pick a woman for vice president. The Sanders camp was caught flat-footed. The rest of the debate did not go any better for Sanders.

Biden’s first instinct is to express empathy. (“First of all, my heart goes out to those … who are suffering from the virus.”) Biden explained the stakes: “This is bigger than any one of us.” Sanders’s first instinct is to revert to his Medicare-for-all talking points.

Biden has a grasp of specifics, recommendations he can offer that demonstrate he has a deep understanding of the issue. He can refer to expertise in handling previous health pandemics. When Sanders tried again and again to make this a Medicare-for-all issue, Biden called him out. “With all due respect to Medicare-for-all, you have a single-payer system in Italy,” Biden said. “It is not working in Italy right now.” He made a devastating case that Sanders’s fixation on Medicare-for-all is irrelevant if not uninformed.

Boom. Keep that one in your back pocket. Medicare-for-all is the goal of the demonicRAT Party. That quote will and should come back to haunt Humper's dad.

“what possible rationale does Bernie Sanders have for staying in the race?”

Biden is a walking time bomb. Had several strokes in the past and looks like he is about to have another one any minute.

Form what I watched, Biden seemed much more composed than usual. I have to wonder if he got some questions or talking points in advance?

Bernie will probably stick around just long enough to cause chaos until he is asked, er, paid the right amount, to leave the race.

In Sanders's mind, to advance the progressive (socialist) cause and keep the pressure on Trump, somehow.

In the minds of soon to be former Democrats, his campaign is a reason to vote for Trump, as primary turn out suggests is happening.

In my mind, after trying to watch the debate where both Sanders and Biden gave rambling non-answers, both of them are losing their minds.

Somebody said he might have taken some pharmaceuticals or something prior to the debate.

What rationale for Biden? Once the already completed primaries are finalized, Sanders will have the lead. But Democrats are dragging their feet to give Biden a lead now based on incomplete results. Look at California, as one example.

Biden won this one. He had it together—But can he keep it together? Trump will still win. He should pick Hillary (or at least ask her and let her turn it down) She could bring in her people and money. Together they might keep Trump from a 48 state landslide. They may keep him to a 36 state mini-landslide.

Biden made “real news” by blatantly pandering?

Only in the irredeemably far-left minds of WaPo editors is that a desirable thing.

Biden had two brain aneurysms and a pulmonary embolism, but no strokes. His late son Beau (real name Joe Biden III) had a mild stroke that was a complication of his brain cancer.

The rationale?

The longer he stays in, the bigger the payoff for pulling out. Gonna cost them a LOT more than a fancy lakehouse this time.

When Biden starts drooling, Bernie will be there to pick up the pieces. If he does stumble into the Convention, Bernie will have votes to cash in on to get VP or some program he wants. If Biden can win outright, Bernie is toast. IMO, Biden could be mumbling and drooling in a couple of months at the rate he is sliding. If brain fluid starts draining out of his ears, would the Dems try to nominate Hillary and not Bernie is the Question.

Bernie knows he is running for POTUS and he knows what day of the week it is. Biden knows neither.
