ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Strong Memorial Hospital officials say a man who was feeling sick attempted to obscure his symptoms so he could join his expectant wife in the hospital’s maternity ward.

Strong officials say the man admitted he was sick after his wife displayed COVID-19 symptoms after giving birth this past week.

After the incident, University of Rochester Medicine and Rochester Regional Health officials announced that beginning Tuesday, universal masking procedures will take effect.

The move is the latest of several actions local health systems have taken to help flatten the curve of COVID-19.

I feel bad for his newborn kid - it's hard to get a good start in life with a friggin' moron for a father.

Sometimes, a disease like that will kill an unborn or newborn baby. The irresponsibility of that man is unspeakable. Babies are very susceptible to infectious disease, because they have almost no immune system.

there’s well over a dozen different entrances to this hospital. 2 weeks ago visiting hours were limited and most entrances closed. there’s only 3 or 4 (maybe 5?) ways in. all but 1 or 2 are for employees only. this guys was screened/stopped at one of these entrances, almost certainly the main public entrance.

Our hospital here is on lockdown. Only patients can be in the ER or the regular rooms. Family can call them on the phone.

My wife had emergency surgery last week. She was wheeled out of the ER. (I was only allowed in because we were both employees of the hospital system and I promised to be a good boy.) I said goodbye.

I picked her up at the door last Thursday. I could talk to her, but no visitors. The only exception was if she was dying.

It was very hard driving away that night.

My BIL is in with sepsis. Frankly I’m concerned if he’s going to make it. They will not let my SIL in to see him. She can only talk to him on the phone. Hope your wife is OK.

IMO men need to go retro for a few months here—and stay out of the maternity hospitals!

Yeah, bonding and blah blah blah. They can pass out cigars and stay at home like in the old days. For just a little while.
