Coronavirus Sneeze: Virus May Travel 26 Feet

Novel coronavirus / COVID-19 guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the USA Center for Disease Control (CDC) suggests that peoople around the world should stay approximately 6 feet apart. Unfortunately, according to MIT associate professor Lydia Bourouiba, “pathogen-bearing droplets of all sizes can travel 23 to 27 feet.”

In the study published here in late March, 2020, Dr. Bourouiba showed that current guidelines for Social Distancing is based on models published in the 1930s. The video below shows a slow-motion sneeze, filmed for a study on the physics of sneezes and coughs by Dr. Bourouiba.

The video shows a close-up view of a sneeze filmed at 2000 frames per second. Dr. Bourouiba’s research shows “a hot, moist, turbulent gas cloud containing air and mucosalivary droplets that travel as far as 26 feet (7-8 meters).”

“the NYC/ICU doc said it travels from hand to mouth”

BS. This virus has wiped out entire nursing homes in Italy. It’s clearly airborne and circulated by air vents.

old report for fear mongers: that only happens if you are an “Olympic” sneezer-even Dr Faccui stated that report is misleading while it is theoretically possible, extremely unlikely and repeating this is unhelpful

” suggests the coronavirus can travel 27 feet and linger airborne for hours is “terribly misleading.”

“Dr. Faucci, said I’m sorry, but I was disturbed by that report because that’s misleading,” “

Mythbusters proved that infectious droplets from a sneeze can travel up to around 17-18 feet.

Around 1:20 in on the vid.

It’s a little disturbing, because they used red food coloring to be able to gauge the distance. But yeah, when you launch one, it goes pretty far... Yikes...

It may have all started by a sneeze in China.

I saw a guy vaping the other day, and saw his exhaled mist travel across a street. It’s really hard to avoid exposure.

In a a hot, moist, turbulent gas cloud. Hee-hee-hee-hee......little grade school gallows humor there to lighten the topic. 😆

A sneeze “MAY” travel 26 feet.

And an asteroid “MAY” hit earth.

And sheeps’ bladders “MAY” be employed to prevent earthquakes.

N ope - 6 feet is a good guideline - most people spit within 2 feet of their own feet - but folks who have nothing better to do than practice for contests can really get some distance - 'could" and "are likely" are two very different things...under right conditions and fine-tuned humidity/temp, etc., one can make a sneeze travel much farther than "normal".

I can pee a lot farther than the toilet, but I don't...at least not often or on purpose...
