OPA-LOCKA, Fla. — A Florida man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion he punched a 70-year-old man who was delivering food to the needy outside a church, police said.
Burnice Lee S. Mikell approached the victim outside the Opa-Locka Church of God and asked him what he was doing there, WPLG reported.
Police said the victim told Mikell, 64, he was there to give food to people in need. Mikell was upset that he was not contacted first and punched the victim in the face, knocking him out, WPLG reported.
Mikell is not part of the church; however, the church allows him to use a nearby building to feed the needy. Mikell told police he punched the man because he feared for his life, WPLG reported.
Mikell was arrested and charged with aggravated battery on an elderly person, WPLG reported. He is being held in jail without bail.

At my old church in the Seattle area, we decided to start a “feed the poor” program. We got the word out, got a bunch of food, and it went pretty well that Friday, which was the day we did it.
Saturday all of our musical equipment was stolen. I lost my bass amp and speaker. Fortunately I took my bass home every Sunday.
That was the only Friday we did it.
I always ask, is it low character that makes people poor, or poverty that causes people to be of low character.
That’s a dangerous animal. Shoot to kill.
At least there’s still room for “Florida man...” stories.
He’s another “pastor,” huh? If I’m not mistaken, battery on an individual over the age of 65 is a felony in FL. This SJW, or whatever he thinks he is, is gonna spend a lot of time in the hoosegow. (Maybe in the CV block?)
I hope the victim is okay. Don’t try to bring muffin stumps or flagged books to the homeless, either. That might not go well.
