You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram.

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

Is this the author’s attempt to salvage the family name?

Quick, first word just sort of appeared. Working with just a couple hours sleep, this helped me get going.

Okay, that was a quick one. It was actually the pattern of the shortest words that started me out.

These are getting ‘easier’???

I don’t entirely agree with the author...
Remember, it is written by the winners...

We’ve had a run of easier CGs, but I think everyone is getting pretty good at these. I’m taking most from the Arkansas Gazette, so they usually post challenging ones for the public.

I’d venture to guess that the regulars to this sight are getting pretty good at sizing up the puzzle, then going forward.

You are welcome. I figure, if I’m going to do these every day, why not share the joy with others.

He didn’t like school did he.

I can see why. He spent 40 years teaching at Harvard, and worked as a traveling scholar and professor in Europe from 1912-1941.

No, we're doing Distance Learning -- or trying to. I'm uploading assignments onto our school's online portal, and the kids (well, the good ones) upload their responses for me to grade.
