20 years since Gladiator was released. I feel old!

Great movie (from memory). Here's an interesting article I came across:

Gladiator's savage off screen battles: Actors who loathed each other, a star who threatened to kill a producer, and a fatal drinking contest... 20 years after the Roman epic was released, TOM LEONARD examines what went on behind the scenes

it was a GREAT movie.

But that first battle scene.

Romans weren’t great because of their individual prowess as soldiers but because of the strategies they used.

They likely wouldn’t have fought that way.

I think they were usually quite close together using a “turtle” type of formation.

The one time they couldn’t use those strategies they got massacred in the forests of...somewhere :)

I often compare GLADIATOR with FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE from 1965. Same Emperor, same Commodus, different General. No CGIs. They actually built a reproduction of the Forum at that time, and spectacular battle scenes.

Both good movies.

Some of the best memorable scenes in that movie. I remember going and seeing it with my brothers

In my opinion, it was Ridley Scott’s finest film.

I think your right. I wouldn’t mind seeing it again. I remember the ending which was emotional (no spoilers! :)

I saw it when it first was released in theaters, but haven’t watched it on either TV or cable channels. Not sure why other than I couldn’t get interested in the story line.

Marcus Aurelius is dead, Maximus.

We mortals are but shadows and dust.

Shadows and dust, Maximus!

One of the greatest movie lines of all time

Echo Alien hercuroc.
Gladiator was solid. Had some cheesy lines tho. Including the end (20 YR SPOILER!!!!!!!!! Look away!!!!!!!!)

when he’s carried off. Paraphrasing. “Who will help me carry him?” It was like this A list epic movie turned into an opera. Closing scene never sat well with me.
But it pales to the movie as a whole. Great movie. Own the dvd. Rainy weekend forecast. Think I’ll pour a whisky and watch it again.
Dvd lol. What is that?!?!
