Los Angeles is requiring essentially everybody in the city wear a face covering at all times whenever outdoors, a policy Mayor Eric Garcetti says will help the local economy reopen faster.
Garcetti announced the order on Wednesday evening, telling city residents: "Bring your mask with you whenever you leave your home."
Children under 2, as well as a limited number of individuals with disabilities, are exempt from the order, the mayor's office said in a press release.
"Face coverings help stop the spread of the virus," Garcetti, a Democrat, said in the release. "Wearing them whenever we’re away from home will create a meaningful layer of protection for people we might come into contact with, and that makes sense at this stage of our response to the crisis."
The order came shortly after Garcetti said that the city will "never be completely open" until scientists discover a cure for coronavirus.
The mayor at the time was partially walking back comments made earlier in the day by Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer, who said Tuesday that the city's stay-at-home order would be extended "with all certainty" for the next three months.

Agreed on the unlikely effectiveness of a vaccine.

The flu vaccines are partially effective at best given the different strains of flu out there.
We will muddle through this, but an effective vaccine is not going to be a part of the answer imho.
A few years ago, a car tooled into one of those spots. Two young girls got out of the car, laughing and ran into the store.
Happily called the village cops, who about 15 minutes later placed a $100 ticket on the windshield.
Ticks me off when you see that and spots are take from old folks who can barely walk.

Hmmmmm.. Do the home made cotton/filter/cotton material masks induce nausea, light headness, low oxygenation of blood, increase of CO2 inhalation??? Are these conditions placing young children, the elderly at risk???Seems there are more and more anecdotal stories regarding these conditions.

You can mask and be 6 feet apart at Safeway but you can't mask and be 6 feet apart on a bike? This is so illogical and stupid and SO FREAKING DAMAGING to people's livelihoods.
Celebrities who love to whine about how they hate that they have no privacy are going to have breakdowns when they realize that they will be forced to actually have privacy.
And just how do they intend to enforce this ridiculous edict
