NASA’s top executive concentrating on human spaceflight, Doug Loverro, has resigned just a week before the scheduled start of a milestone space mission.
Loverro became NASA’s associate administrator for human exploration and operations last December, and was playing a leading role in NASA’s Artemis moon program as well as preparations for next week’s launch of a SpaceX Crew Dragon mission to the International Space Station.
That mission, set for liftoff on May 27 from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, is due to send NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken to the station for a stay that could last as long as four months. It’ll be the first launch of an orbital crewed mission from U.S. soil since the retirement of NASA’s space shuttles in 2011.
Loverro told The Washington Post that his departure had nothing to do with the commercial crew program, which involves SpaceX as well as Boeing. He said “it was absolutely safe to proceed” with the SpaceX launch.
“It had to do with moving fast on Artemis, and I don’t want to characterize it in any more detail than that,” Loverro told the Post.

Wouldn’t that be a hoot if Krantz was at least on hand as a guest and wore his vest. I think that would be fitting.
Let’s pray that this mission is a success. It would be a shot in the arm for our country. It would instill pride again. Although the Rats will find something wrong.... cause they’re Rats.

From 2007 to 2013, Mr Loverro served as the Executive Director and Deputy Program E xecutive Officer for the Air Force Space Command’s Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC). In that capacity, he was responsible for the development, deployment, and sustainment of all Department of Air Force space systems and was a key spokesman for addressing the growing importance of space systems and the steps needed to assure them for the future. Prior to his assignment at SMC, he served in a wide range of space leadership roles as Deputy Director of System Engineering at the NRO, and Program Director for the Future Imagery Architecture System, the US Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) System, and the Air Force’s classified space control systems program.
Mr. Loverro is credited with a wide-ranging list of accomplishments in aerospace development including the development of a national strategy for space defense and space system resilience, initiating modernization of the third-generation GPS System, establishing the DoD’s Global Broadcast Service program, and the invention of the supersonic chemical oxygen-iodine laser. He is an outspoken advocate for greater use of commercial capabilities and manufacturing for future DoD space and launch missions. He retired from active duty in the Air Force as a Colonel in February 2006 after 30 years of uniformed service and upon selection as a member of the Defense Intelligence Senior Executive Service.
Mr. Loverro holds an M.S. in Physics from the University of New Mexico, an M.S. in Political Science from Auburn University, an M.B.A. from the University of West Florida, and a B.S. in Chemistry from the United States Air Force Academy. He was the top graduate from his class atthe Industrial College of the Armed Forces and is a graduate of the JFK School of Government Senior Executives in National and International Security Program, and the National Defense University’s Pinnacle Program.
Mr. Loverro is married to Stephanie Loverro and they have two children.
A very mysterious departure indeed. I wonder if we will find out the true reason for his resigning. I hope someone questions this guy to get to the bottom of it, whatever it is.
He admitted he made a mistake, swallowed his medicine and resighned.

Seems like the kind of a job where you have to love the stress of nearly impossible deadlines and people hanging around like vultures waiting for you to screw up.
Perhaps he saw a Challenger-like disaster in the making. Getthereitis got all those astronauts killed.

I believe, due to his long-standing in NASA, he is a never-Trumper.
I, as a former DoD/NASA certified Quality Control Specialist, I can say there is and was more politics found there, than during the peak of the latest rounds of impeachment!!!
Thanks BenLurkin. Not wanting to share any further information is likely part of a longer sentence which includes 'on the advice of my attorney". Crooked, corrupt, bribes, Boeing, it'll probably have something to do with at least three out of four.
Then my advice was right on the money.
