Brevard County Emergency Management wants to remind residents and visitors to think safety first and foremost as you make plans for watching the return to human spaceflight with Wednesday’s historic SpaceX Crew Dragon rocket launch from Kennedy Space Center.
The launch is scheduled for Wednesday at 4:33 p.m.,
Brevard County officials caution motorists that traffic will generate a variety of potential safety obstacles for those who want to venture out for the launch.
As with the Space Shuttle program, Brevard County beaches and parks are prime viewing areas. Officials are asking people protect themselves and others by following the CDC social distancing guidelines.
Traffic is also a concern among officials because there is a limited amount of north/south and east/west roadways that lead to prime viewing locations.
When gridlock occurs, that’s not only frustrating for motorists, but it also poses major safety issues for law enforcement, fire and ambulance units that might need to respond to an emergency.
As a safety precaution, officials strongly ask motorists to obey traffic laws and don’t park on the side of roadways. Also, staying alert and watching for pedestrians is vital. Be prepared for significant traffic delays before and after the launch.
Officials say there will be an increased law enforcement presence.

Let’s pray for a successful launch and return of the spacecraft. This country needs a shot in the arm. No pun intended.

Drove up A1A in the early morning of July 16 1969. You should have seen the crowds. It would surly break my heart to see such sights again. (OK, it was my sister driving, I was still a bit young.) I’ll be watching from the little park near Pineda Causeway on US1. If you want to say Hey! look for the goggles. Wouldn’t miss this for all the bats in China.
I considered flying down there from the Twin Cities.
I visited some sites where they talked about the best places to watch the launch. Unfortunately, it seemed as though the best places (Kennedy Space Center or Playalinda Beach at Canaveral National Seashore) were closed. The few decent places that were open seemed like there’d be a lot of people crowded into relatively small areas.
In the best interest of not catching COVID-19, I decided to pass. I’ll watch it on TV and hopefully catch another launch sometime down the road.

Agreed.
Desperately hoping for a fully successful launch. This country NEEDS to have its own fully functioning and capable space program again. We were the first to put a man on the moon. Having to ask the Russians for a ride on their spacecraft so we could put people into space after the Space Shuttles were retired was heartbreaking to witness.
I don’t care how you feel about Elon Musk, this launch is about America building its own spacecraft again and putting Americans back into space without help from anybody else. Every single red-blooded American should be rooting for total success here!

Not really. Against the law.
Spacex has a good reliability record and just passed the Atlas for most launches. It is still a tough job and I am praying that all goes well.
