Rep. Matt Gaetz and Rep. Ken Buck call for Article V Convention
Twitter ^ | Aug 4 | Rep. Matt Gaetz

Posted on 08/04/2020 11:37:35 PM PDT by RandFan

Fascinating discussion between Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) following HBO's "The Swamp" (I didn't see it).

Gaetz & Buck want a Convention of the states to introduce federal term limits and a balanced budget amendment.

They also discuss a range of other topics regarding Congress and how things are done.

NO.

This will open the door to turn the country full on socialism. Obama is just salivating and waiting to turn our limited government into a full-on “proactive” government that can force people to do his bidding.

They’ll destroy both the 1st and 2nd amendment right off the bat.

Massie does have reservations. Gaetz and Buck think they can limit the Convention to the two specific topics.

It would require 2/3’s of state legislatures to agree with amendments proposed.

Presently, I would suggest it’s near impossible to get any agreement on any agenda with that number. If you did ask publicly, probably a majority of Americans would agree on limiting Senators and House members to some number (like twelve years). Beyond that, there’s too much disagreement.

Famous last words. Term limits are useless without limiting the time of the armies of people working in D.C. Get rid of civil service and return to patronage ! 4 or 8 years in with a new administration and then OUT !

Exactly - allowing permanent federal employees means the mutinous communists drill in and never leave.

What a complete waste of time. Why don’t they more actively work on our existing Constitution and Bill of Rights, such as the much maligned 2nd Amendment?

They discuss 2A in the video..

Massie is chairman of the 2nd Amendment caucus. He says he got a B- from the NRA because he opposed fix NICs

The John Birch Society has opposed Article V for as long as I can remember.

No it won’t, It would take two thirds of all the states to turn the country into “full blown socialism”. Look at how many states Trump won last election. The democrats don’t have anywhere near two thirds, not even close. We’re actually in a position to get some good things done through an article V convention of states and should do it. The democrats would be in a horrible position and would lose their asses.

The Constitution we currently have, is much more conservative than the electorate which would be deciding how to change it.

Don’t be afraid, any changes ratified by the Article V convention would have to be ratified by the convention and and the states in the same way as a Constitutional Amendment...they’re not 38 states that would ratify the elimination of the 1st or 2nd Amendment...

It would take two thirds of all the states to turn the country into “full blown socialism”.

Look at the Equal Rights Amendment....they have the votes to amend the constitution now....40 years later....and, unlike Republicans, Democrats never give up.

Democrats will have a decade or two to get that 2/3 majority they need in the states.....and they will do it.

Our side will provide the blade that slits our throats. Maybe even give the left an amendment that has "no chance" of being ratified to placate them so we get a watered-down term limits amendment that does nothing about the entrenched bureaucracy.

With the media, Soros, marxists and Democrats in full-blown destroy-the-country mode, there is NO WAY I would support an Article V Convention.

Americans are being conned....Wuhan Virus is only one angle of attack being used.

An Article V would turn into a total re-write of our constitution.

The left would offer “Let the public offer amendments”

They would create a website where anyone can offer amendments. Only the leftist amendments would be chosen, of course.

If that is true then all the more reason to get it over with. I do not think it is true...

NO! Don’t risk our rights! Soros, Democrats and the Communist Party all have new Constitutions at the ready!
Stop the stupidity! We have to keep the 2A!
Have these people learned nothing about voting corruption by the Democrats?
