Mali president, PM held by mutinying soldiers: Live updates

Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and Prime Minister Boubou Cisse have been detained by mutinying soldiers in the capital during an apparent coup attempt.

The development on Tuesday came hours after soldiers took up arms and staged a mutiny at a key base in Kati, a town close to Bamako.

It followed a weeks-long political crisis that has seen opposition protesters taking to the streets to demand the departure of Keita, accusing him of allowing the country's economy to collapse and mishandling a worsening security situation.

Mali's years-long conflict, in which ideologically-motivated armed groups have stoked ethnic tensions while jockeying for power, has spilled into the neighbouring countries of Niger and Burkina Faso, destabilising the wider Sahel region and creating a massive humanitarian crisis.

Earlier on Tuesday, opposition protesters gathered at a square in Bamako in a show of support for the soldiers while regional and international powers urged the troops to return to the barracks and foreign embassies advised their citizens to stay indoors.

With the exception of the military uniforms the scene looks a lot like Mogadishu, Minnesota; Chicago; Portland; Seattle; New Yokel City; and other formerly great American cities that have been turned into sh1th0le third-world hellholes by morons elected to city councils and mayoral positions. I would feel sorry for the people of those cities were I to forget they brought this upon themselves.

Yes.

They’d give their teft lesticals if some one high in the military officer corp arrested Trump and established their own interim government leaning heavy to the left.

It would never happen, as the Second Amendment would kick in and CWII would be in full progress.

“It would never happen, as the Second Amendment would kick in and CWII would be in full progress.”

The deep blue areas are mainly that way because the big cities dominate them.

Anaconda Plan II.
Cut off the major cities. Block all roads and highways going in or out. NO traffic in or out. No food, medicine, mail or people get in.
Modern supermarkets resupply daily and as recent events have proven the shelves empty quickly.

Cut off the supply of energy as well.
No electricity, gas, gasoline or fuel of any type is available to them.

Take out the airports, train lines and port facilities on the coasts. Harder but doable.

When the city dwellers try to break out mow them down like weeds. Leave the bodies as reminders of what happens when the barricades are rushed.

When they beg for relief tighten down harder. When they come crawling on their bellies make them give up their political and social leaders.
Explain the method of impalent preferred by Vlad Tepes.
Make them practice on their leaders.

Give’em what they want to give us and give it good and hard.

BLM heck. It's what the democrats want for America. Check this out:

In one scenario, John Podesta — the former chair of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, and a leading figure in party circles — played former Vice President Joe Biden, and refused to concede the election.

The result: the threat of secession by the entire West Coast, followed by the possible intervention of the U.S. armed forces:

But conveniently, a group of former top government officials called the Transition Integrity Project actually gamed four possible scenarios, including one that doesn’t look that different from 2016: a big popular win for Mr. Biden, and a narrow electoral defeat, presumably reached after weeks of counting the votes in Pennsylvania. For their war game, they cast John Podesta, who was Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, in the role of Mr. Biden. They expected him, when the votes came in, to concede, just as Mrs. Clinton had.

But Mr. Podesta, playing Mr. Biden, shocked the organizers by saying he felt his party wouldn’t let him concede. Alleging voter suppression, he persuaded the governors of Wisconsin and Michigan to send pro-Biden electors to the Electoral College.

In that scenario, California, Oregon, and Washington then threatened to secede from the United States if Mr. Trump took office as planned. The House named Mr. Biden president; the Senate and White House stuck with Mr. Trump. At that point in the scenario, the nation stopped looking to the media for cues, and waited to see what the military would do.

This is a good background and contains info about the the opposition coalition Mouvement du 5 Juin-Rassemblement des Forces Patriotiques (M5-RFP). The movement is composed of an assortment of groupings and people from different ideological and political backgrounds. Its most visible figures is influential imam Mahmoud Dicko, a former head of Mali's High Islamic Council. The protesters who gathered on 10 July amid calls for civil disobedience subsequently fanned out through Bamako’s streets, shutting down its two main bridges, occupying the national television station, and looting and setting fire to parts of the National Assembly, located a stone's throw from the city's Grand Mosque.

Mali's president resigns and dissolves parliament

If Dicko will take over there will be another Islamic state in Africa.

“In that scenario, California, Oregon, and Washington then threatened to secede from the United States”

If the Democrats aka Demoncrats succeed in stealing the 2020 election by voter fraud winning the House, Senate and White House, I hope Texas is the first state to secede.

Info about the Islamist that is the driving force behind the destruction of Mali https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahmoud_Dicko

but to be honest the deposed president https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibrahim_Boubacar_Ke%C3%AFta was not good for Mali either.

This is Africa it is complicated web of tribes, religion and who knows what. The Imam Dicko has said that his task is completed, but that is not my bet:

Dicko is the Malian version of Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran, who led the revolt against the Shah of Iran in 1979. Malian opposition to Keita’s government calls Dicko ‘the religious guide’. And like Ayatollah, he is a cleric and also a politician.

The 66 year-old Dicko is a Saudi-trained Muslim cleric and hugely popular. He backed Keita until they fell out in late 2017 over, among other things, the president’s choice of Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga as prime minister. As a religious leader, he wants the government to negotiate with jihadist groups.

Russia is planning to step up its military cooperation with African countries as part of its new Africa strategy, including building bases in six countries, Germany daily Bild reported Tuesday, citing a secret German Foreign Ministry report. The classified document on what it calls “Russia’s new Africa ambitions” says Russian President Vladimir Putin had made “Africa a top priority.”

An important aspect of Russia’s advance in Africa is military cooperation with some of the continent’s dictatorial regimes, it said. “Since 2015, Russia has concluded military cooperation agreements with 21 countries in Africa,” according to the leaked document.

Previously, there were only four military cooperation treaties across the entire continent, it added. Furthermore, it said, the Kremlin was “contractually assured” it would “be allowed to build military bases in six countries,” namely the Central African Republic, Egypt, Eritrea, Madagascar, Mozambique, and Sudan.

Moreover, Russia’s army is partially secretly and partially officially training soldiers from those countries, according to the report. For example, 180 Russian army instructors are based in the Central African Republic or elsewhere in Africa, said the report. “Around 20 Malian soldiers are trained in Russia every year,” it added.

With a market share of 37.6%, Russia is the top weapons supplier to Africa, followed by the US with 16%, France with 14%, and China with 9%.

Numerous media outlets, including the BBC, immediately reported that the coup was led by Malick Diaw and Sadio Camara, two army colonels who hold top positions at the Kati military base and who are reportedly very close friends. But there's something else both men have in common— they were trained by the military in Russia. Two Malian military officials told The Daily Beast that both Diaw and Camara were in Russia before they returned to Mali to stage Tuesday's coup, confirming a local media report. The two officers are said to have departed Bamako for Moscow early in the year to attend military training sponsored by the Russian armed forces, they returned a little over a week before the coup was executed.

Sources in the Malian military told The Daily Beast that a number of senior officers suspect Diaw and Camara planned the coup from Russia and that both men had been in contact with others involved in the plot from their training base abroad. Rumors that some officers were contemplating a coup had begun to spread quietly in the military at the start of August, even before the two colonels returned home. “A coup of this nature is not something you plan in a matter of days,” a lieutenant in the Malian army, who previously served in Kati, told The Daily Beast on the condition of anonymity as he wasn't authorized to speak.
