Havelock, N.C. Gary Dean, 69, wore a neck gaiter with an American flag printed on it to his job at Food Lion in Havelock, North Carolina. But, Food Lion's uniform policy did not allow for staff members to wear clothing with "writing, insignia or symbols." Dean's manager told him that someone was offended by the American flag image, and he was not allowed to wear the mask anymore at work.
Dean is a veteran of the US Air Force, and decided to resign from his job at the Food Lion, saying that the cooperate [sic] decision went against his personal values.
Food Lion said in a statement that they "have great respect" for the American Flag, but their policy doesn't allow symbols like the American flag.
After a week of the story gaining national attention, Food Lion has changed course. They released an updated statement, and said after listening to employees and customers they decided to change their uniform policy.

A well stated response. They did not change their policy at all, but issued a common sense clarification.
They should change their damn logo. The thing looks like some kid from the 1970s created it.
It’s leaving some with “mask mouth”.
Wow. Just one person complains ABOUT THE US FLAG!!! What country does the management of Food Lion think they are in?
If they didn’t allow any insignia, I have no problem with their initial policy.
I would call fo rthe resignation of the Food Lion president over this.
Food Lion should issue Food Lion approved masks. I know my local has folks wearing all kinds of face panties.
A lot of solid ones to be sure but others with just about anything.
Not to mention that MCAS Cherry Point is in Havelock. Wouldn’t help their sales at that grocery.
Wow. Now the flag is offensive?
Good luck with that!
One of the things I learned on FR is that we really shouldn’t use the flag for anything but a flag.
Willie Nelson even did a song about it.
I don't either, but I think we both know they wouldn't have the guts to tell an employee with a BLM mask to remove it.
It’s got nothing to do with masks.
My daughter works for Whole foods and they have the same policy for shirts, or other clothing. No words or symbols. Multiple BLM twats got their panties in a wad over it. It makes good sense for a company to have a policy like that, or require a uniform.
Charlie Daniels.
Food Lion is in a battle with Walmart, Lowes, Aldis and Publixs. When I first arrived in Eastern NC it was just Food Lion, Piggly Wiggly and a few privately owned supermarkets in smaller towns. Walmart in the nearby larger towns and cities, Eastern NC is turning into one large bedroom community. New housing is everywhere. Consequently Food Lion is under pressure from competitors even in small towns. Alienating the military in a military town ain't good business.
What if it were a BLM mask?
So, wear a flag of Belgium... since Food Lion is NOT an American Company but the LION in their logo is from Belgium. How about those apples.
DelHaize Group, Anderlecht, Brussels, Belgium HQ (some more of the non-paying NATO countries with their NATO HQ in Brussels, living off that American Flag someone was offended by).
Delhaize Le Lion / De Leeuw was founded near Charleroi, Belgium, in 1867.
Food Lion was a different NC owned grocery store chain, based in Salisbury before these freaking Belgian’s took over. Time to shop elsewhere.
Some may recall how ABC (Sam Donaldson) made a “documentary” on the filthy Food Lion conditions— in order to help the complete takeover of an American company— ABC Always Bull Crap— and now owned by DIZZZIE DISNEY the Paedo’s friends.
Yeah baby! Gimme some sugar!
