I carry one in the chamber & two backup magazines.
On my 9mm that’s 22 rounds.

If you need 145 rounds for a handgun, you have the wrong job and / or the wrong firearm as 145 rounds is for something that’s belt-fed.

Must be a very small 9 mm. But still, you can swap out mags way faster than a wheel gun shooter can speed load six more rounds under duress.

In case he runs into 144 bad guys that need shooting and he misses once.

It is good to carry enough rounds. From watching the riots out west and other democrat cities the bad guys are running in packs and if you are attacked you DO NOT WANT TO RUN OUT OF AMMO while trying to defend yourself or your family. One in the pipe is SOP.

I have over 45 handguns. One of my favorites is an S&W 627 PC revolver. It shoots 8 round moon clips that reload fast. Love that gun, but my primary carry is a Glock G19.

[I remember visiting my uncle who was a detective in Cincinatti and he carried a 38 special with two speed loaders for a total of 18 rounds. I guess things were different in the 60s.]

An acquaintance who was a police lieutenant used to carry that complement of ammo. He showed me his gear and I commented that it seemed like overkill. These days, it’s looking like he would be severely outgunned. That’s presumably why public safety departments have all upgraded to high capacity pistols, with a good number settling on Glocks.

He fired 33 rounds, hit the perp with 17 of those .45 hollowpoints, including multiple mortal wounds. The gunfight lasted under 1 minute, during which the perp fired 21 rounds at him, and hit him with 1 bullet. It ended only when one of his bullets hit the perp in the head. He was 4 rounds from slidelock, and having to switch to his single digit capacity compact backup gun when the perp stopped firing. When the paramedics arrived, the perp was still showing vital signs, despite having taken a hit in the brainpan. Because both were maneuvering to get out of the line of fire, he was unable to get to his shotgun and AR, and the perp was unable to get to the SKS he had stashed on his back seat.

I carry an extra 6-round mag to go with the 6+1 in the weapon.
Sometimes, like with the virus, one has to just go with the odds that he’s gonna be OK

Autopsy showed he had been hit by 17 of Gramins’ 230-gr. Speer Gold Dot .45 hollowpoints.

Holy crap!

Any time I see a thread like this I'm amazed at how many people try to argue that a revolver is all you need and that's all they carry. I personally carry a Glock 23 with one in the chamber, plus two spare magazines...40 rounds total. Which will bring on the next big arguement...one in the chamber, or empty chamber.

One of the fundamental truths about gun ownership is, every gun owner has an opinion. And one of the truths about life in the universe is, one size rarely fits all. I can make a sound case for carrying one or more expensive, large-caliber handguns, with a boat-load of ammo. I can also make a sound case for carrying an inexpensive, small-caliber handgun, with limited or no ability to reload. Bottom line, IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR SPECIFIC SITUATION...

Gramins could have used 255-gr +P rounds, but you gotta wonder if it would have made a difference. The point is that it takes a split second for the other guy to fire a round that puts you out of commission, and you want to get him to stop firing in as few split seconds as possible. That means the copious expenditure of ammo until he stops. Which you can’t do if you’re rationing your ammo while he’s plugging away at you.

Makes you wonder about the truth of the stories about .45’s in the PI a century ago being the silver bullet against machete-wielding rebels. They used a 200 gr. bullet back then, lighter than the standard 230 gr. today. Gramins’s gun fight lasted about a minute. In 1 minute, a fit assailant can literally run 400 yards. A .45’s accuracy (due to recoil and the fact that it’s a pistol) is such that you’re lucky to hit someone at 100 yards, let alone score multiple hits. The rebels had a force multiplier - they were fighting alongside kith and kin; they were going to win together or die together. The tale of the .45 being the decisive factor in routing Moro rebels in the Philippines is sounding more and more like a fish story.

My comment addressed the fact that the guy was hit 17 times by .45 hollow points, one to the kidney, both lungs and heart and the last three to the head, with the last one in the brain that finally brought him down......

I don't think any grade of ammo would have made a difference........That's just another argument that isn't worth getting into.......
