Cubin Has Virtually Empty Campaign Account (WY Congressional race)
CBS News ^ | October 16, 2007 | Josh Kraushaar

Rep. Barbara Cubin (R-Wyo.) has virtually no money left in her campaign account after raising only $11,000 in the entire third quarter.

She ended the third quarter with $8,651 cash-on-hand.

Her meager fundraising will continue to fuel speculation that the seven-term lawmaker may not run for re-election. Despite running in the heavily Republican state of Wyoming, Cubin has faced serious Democratic challenges in recent years.

In 2006, Cubin only defeated rancher Gary Trauner by less than a one-point margin in the state’s closest House race in 36 years. Trauner announced Monday that he would be seeking a rematch against Cubin.

Cubin has also been spending nearly as much time in Wyoming as she has in Washington lately. She has missed nearly half of all votes in the House this year, largely because of her husband’s chronic illness.

While Cubin deserves sympathy for her husband’s plight, she should not continue to serve in Congress. Perhaps she’ll come to her senses and retire.

It would be nice if she left early, so the party could coalesce behind a successor.

Apparently SeeBS wants get in on the act this year after dinomedia's year long smear campaign against Cubin during the runup to the 2006 election ended in abject failure. A search of www.cbs.com on "Democrat johnson stroke" indicates that SeeBS deems the attendance of the 51st Senate Democrat from a neighboring state as unnewsworthy.

I noticed that corrupt politicans just don’t get it. They see themselves as Royalty. They have to be dragged out of office. See Larry Craig.

With Hillary as the Rodent nominee, we should hold the WY seat easily if Cubin retires.

Cubin’s problem isn’t one of corruption, though, and that’s important to point out. For some reason, it’s her personality that rubs Wyoming residents the wrong way. But her fundraising, as with Doolittle, demonstrates that they’re not taking reelection seriously, and this is way too late in the game to be acting that way if they intend to run again.

She’s already being challenged in the primary by state Representative Cody Simpson, whose father and grandfather were U.S. Senators.

Hopefully, she’ll retire and be succeeded by ex-Treasurer Cynthia Loomis.

My concern about Cody Simpson, who is now the WY House Majority Leader, is that he may be pro-abort like his dad. Loomis hasn’t made any mention of running for the House, only the Senate, but with Sen. Barrasso not making any missteps so far, he may draw no real opposition at all on the GOP side.
